Things Destiny 3 needs, if the rumors are true

A week before the release of Renegades, rumors of Destiny 3 has resurfaced on social media. Deaktiny on X claims so Destiny 3 is in very early development and that more information will follow in the coming months. Whether this is true or not is still very much up in the air, as rumors of a potential third installment have circulated in the past, without any real confirmation. What makes this different, however, is Deakstiny's solid track record of leaks in the past.

Destiny 2: 7 Biggest Things Removed By The Edge Of Fate Expansion

A few things have gone into the sunset in The Edge of Fate, so check out what content has been removed for this Destiny 2 expansion.

It's hard not to get excited about the possibility of a third installment, especially considering how it is Destiny 2 has been since the release of Edge of Fate. Story-wise, the franchise seems to be on the right track, but many key gameplay changes left fans feeling frustrated. Now, with Renegades, there is some hope, along with skepticism, that Bungie will turn the ship around. About the rumors about Destiny 3 is true, here's what it takes to get it right to be a success.

More MMO features

More customization and a better world

There's a lot Bungie could adopt from other MMOs to spice things up Destiny 3. First, a personal space that can be accessed, like a clan house or the player's own ship, no matter how big or small, can add that extra bit of fun customization. More importantly, however, the world needs a major overhaul.

Improving the patrol experience with world bosses and better events (which also provide better rewards) might actually encourage players to interact with some of the game's incredibly well-crafted locations again outside of prize grinding and other busywork.

A better crucible mode

The PVP side desperately needs some love

It's no secret that the PVP players in the game feel deeply neglected. For some time now, The Crucible hasn't felt like a huge priority for Bungie, but it should be. PVP is one of the better ways to stream and create content Destiny 2so when that part of the community isn't taken care of, the game as a whole starts to suffer.

Additionally, a robust PVP mode can help draw players away from other looters and competitive FPS games. There's a lot to nail down here, with dedicated servers being the main issue and proper PVP balancing.

Looting and shooting that feels more rewarding

Grinding, but in moderation, with satisfying rewards

Edge of Fate really pushed the boundaries when it comes to grit, and while some changes were good conceptually, they translated poorly into actual gameplay. It's no surprise that so many called solo Caldera “the mines” in the first few months of the expansion, and even Bungie recognized this problem in a TWID and has since started implementing changes to reduce the gate for high-tier and high Power loot.

Destiny 2: 7 Biggest Changes in The Edge of Fate

The Edge of Fate is a fresh start for many Destiny 2 players, and here are the biggest changes that veterans will have to get used to.

Destiny 3 need to lean more into this. The game must respect the player's time and effort with each activity, with the ability to focus on specific loot without having to replay the same content for hours on end for a small chance of Tier 5 gear or high Power loot. It may be time to say goodbye to Power in altogether Destiny 3.

The return of craftsmanship, in moderation

The best tool for collectors and those with limited time

Crafting is a great way to guarantee loot drops and reduce grinding. Not everyone has the time or resources to run an activity several times a week. That said, it eliminates the tension of getting a random drop in especially endgame content, so finding a balance is important if Destiny 3 really happens.

One way to address this issue is to recreate crafting for weapons, but make enhanced perks available only for random drops. This way, collectors get the weapons they want for each season without relying solely on luck, but the exciting part of receiving random loot is still preserved.

A robust experience for new players

Newcomers are too often confused when starting the game

One of the major problems facing the franchise right now is the lack of new players. The game is simply too complex and terrifying, with more than a decade of beats and lore for players to catch up with. That's a huge investment, especially when so much of the content is locked behind paid expansions.

Bungie's biggest priority for Destiny 3 should therefore be a robust, straightforward orientation for new players. This questline could guide the player through a unique set of quests (and not just old quests with different dialogue) that explain some of the game's key story points, while introducing basic construction, weapons, activity types, resources, and so on. Designing the perfect new light “campaign” won't be easy, but it can certainly be longer than what players have now.

No sunset or arch

Acquired content is content that players should be allowed to keep

There is so much Destiny 2 has brought back over the years that much is safe, but many still have a bad taste in their mouths from the sunset and vault of contents. While the reasoning behind it from a technical point of view is understandable, it's incredibly jarring for new players to hear about quests and campaigns that greatly impacted the game world and are no longer available.

Destiny 2: 10 Best PvE Weapons, Ranked (2025)

Here are some of the best guns you can use when fighting humanity's enemies in Destiny 2.

For older players, it's about losing access to content they paid for. The Red War campaign is always the prime example of this, along with some of the older raids. If Destiny 3 rolls around, it needs to be more strategic about the content it introduces and make sure the content (both weapons and quests) remains available over the years.

A new engine and better servers

Fewer errors, smoother launches

Speaking of vaults and sunsets, the current game engine has its limitations, which has led to some of these unpopular decisions. Destiny 3 definitely has to make some cuts here: a new engine and dedicated servers that ensure players experience more stability and fewer bugs, especially around the launch of new content.

Most importantly, and this may be controversial, Destiny 3 should move away from supporting old generation consoles. It is this continuous support that imposes limitations Destiny 2 and what the game can realistically do. In fact, it might be time to just move on from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for good.

Non-drip story content

Let players choose their adventure (and pace)

Bungie has already made great strides in how it delivers the story of Destiny 2. Players have generally never been fans of the drip-fed content that makes them log in for fifteen minutes every week for some extra lore and then wait seven days for the story to continue.

Additionally, non-linear content gives players a bit more freedom in how they choose to interact with the story and world. Edge of Fate dipped its toes into this already with side missions, so hopefully Bungie continues with that direction. Story-wise, the game is heading down a promising path with the Witness defeated and the Nine becoming major players, making it the perfect moment to move on to Destiny 3.

New Lore, New Frontiers, New Enemies

It's time to introduce something fresh

The Light and Dark saga gave players the Dread as a new faction. With Destiny 3would be the perfect opportunity to introduce something completely new and fresh. Considering how big the universe is and how the Nine are introduced as these weird, cool aliens, there's so much untapped potential that Bungie could sink its teeth into.

New places, new borders and new enemies are a must for Destiny 3. While it's certainly nice to revisit iconic locations from the past, some players have stuck around since the first game and would definitely love to explore locations, cultures, and species that feel very different from anything previously introduced in the game. Now is the time to innovate and impress the player base.
