All characters and their subclass variants are flexible to some extent, although they will always be good at their respective roles. Be sure to bring a weapon that complements a subclass's playstyle, such as Necromancer Sienna's scythe if you want to focus on clearing large groups. Your choice of weapon will only play as big a role as your choice of class when it comes to doing your job within a team.
Best Kruber classes
Grail Knight stands out as one of the better classes for Kruber, and that's all thanks to how strong it is against bosses. Its special ability, Blessed Blade, deals a single, powerful blow that can deal massive damage, and if you stack enough damage multipliers, you'll be able to create one-time bosses. However, the Grail Knight Kruber cannot equip ranged weapons, so it can be difficult to deal with specials such as Ratling Gunners and Globardiers.
Mercenary may be Kruber's default class, but it's more than capable of carrying entire teams through the toughest situations. The Morale Boost class ability is great for crowd control, and it can give everyone on the team a temporary health boost for a short time as well. Mercenary Kruber is pretty tough, and he also has good damage, making him one of the better classes for players who want a little bit of everything.
Best Kerillian classes
Waystalker is arguably the best elite assassin in the game thanks to the Trueshot Volley, which fires seeker arrows that make elite hunting that much easier. Not only do players get the convenience of a fire-and-forget skill that takes out high-priority targets by itself, but they also get access to some excellent weapons that are good for everything else, like the Glaive with its sweeping attacks and armor-piercing attacks.
If you're looking for a subclass with a little more survivability, Servant is an excellent choice. This subclass is great for dodging and blocking attacks, and if you play properly you will never go down. The Handmaiden also has passives that give it increased critical strike chance, giving you some extra flexibility when it comes to your item selection.
Best Bardin classes
Outcast engineer is one of the best classes in Vermintide 2 for two reasons:
-
It has a mini gun with infinite ammo
-
It gives you a free bomb every 80 seconds
This Bardin subclass is incredibly easy to use, and it's a ton of fun too, even on the most demanding difficulty levels. You can blow up hordes of rats and northerners with your free bombs (no friendly fire damage), and when something big pops up you can gun it down with your Crankgun.
Now, if you like playing as Bardin and you're not quite sure about playing in Legend or Cataclysm, then Ironbreaker will be your best option. Like the Handmaiden, this subclass is all about survivability; Ironbreaker can absorb tons of hits, making it an excellent tank class that also does a pretty good job of killing bosses. But you'll still want to practice dodging attacks so you don't build any bad habits. After all, enemies in Legend and Cataclysm still hit like a truck.
Best Saltzpyre classes
If you want a subclass that can absolutely melt bosses and tear apart hordes while generating insane amounts of Temporary Health, then Fanatic is your choice. This subclass for Victor Saltzpyre takes advantage of the naturally high attack speed of his weapons and makes them even faster via Holy glow class ability, and when you hit things fast, you can use it excellently Second wind perk, which generates Temporary Health every time you stun an enemy (which is all the time).
The downside to playing the Zealot subclass is that much of its power is only unlocked when your health gets low. It's a very risky style of play, but it's also very rewarding.
Now if you want something more balanced, then Witch Hunter Captain should itch it itches for you. This subclass can improve damage output for the entire team, and it has a passive that lets you instantly kill human-sized enemies with critical headshots. Human-sized enemies include the majority of Specials and Elites outside of Maulers and Chaos Warriors. This is especially strong against berserkers (Plague Monks and Savages).
Best Sienna classes
Necromancer is one of Sienna's better subclasses for Legend and Cataclysm, and that's mainly because of the skeletons. They don't last very long, and they don't do much damage, but the fact that they can take some pressure off you and your team is enough to make them one of the best crowd control abilities in the game.
Skeletons aside, Necromancer Sienna is also pretty good at dealing with specials, elites, and bosses due to her improved damage over time effects and innate critical hit chance bonuses. Also, her Reaping perk that gives her Unlimited Cleave is perfect for dealing with large hordes.
Battle Wizard is a great option for players looking for a balanced playstyle. If you have enough cooldown reduction, you'll be able to draw enemies with Fire Walk, giving you the chance to breathe for a while and take everything out more easily. We recommend using a Bolt Staff to kill Specials/Elites/Bosses, although the Fireball Staff is a good option if you want to focus more on AoE.
