The Legend Of Zelda Live-Action Movie Set Photos Leaked

In 2023, Nintendo announced that they were working on a live-action The Legend of Zelda film with Maze Runner director Wes Ball; two years later, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth had been cast as Zelda and Link, respectively. And now, thanks to set leaks, we have our first look at them in costume.

This comes courtesy of Instagram user tonyolsenfilm, who shared a clip of the pair filming in New Zealand, giving us a clear look at Zelda in a blue tunic that loosely resembles her outfit in Tears of the Kingdom, and a woman who appears to be a younger Impa, who is speculated to be played by Dichen Lachman of Apes, Last of the Dragons and Kingdom of the Dragons.

Zelda's horse is adorned in a saddle bearing the royal coat of arms of Hyrule, the iconic Triforce centered above a Loftwing, while Impa – assuming is her – has a brown horse, although the markings on the saddle are more subtle; I'll leave it to Zelda superfans to decipher if they make any sense.

Some have argued that the horse further back looks like Epona.

Then we have a brief shot of Ainsworth in costume as Link, though he's further back, blurred and obscured by a tree, so it's harder to make out the details than it is with Zelda. What is clear is that he is not wearing his Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom outfits, but rather his more iconic green tunic, similar to his appearance in Twilight Princess.

What the set leaks tell us about The Legend Of Zelda Film

It's hard to discern any major details from this brief set leak that tell us anything about the story: the outfits appear to be a mix from different games, while Zelda seemingly meets a character who has appeared in many titles. Impa being younger would at least rule out Breath of the Wild, but in all likelihood this is an original story that takes bits and pieces from the entire games, a la The Super Mario Bros. Movies.

The forest doesn't give us much to chew on either: it's a fairly generic backdrop, and again, one that's found in countless games in the series. But with the film set for release in 2027, and filming already underway – unless these are test footage – hopefully we'll get more concrete details soon.
