Just over two months since the launch has slowed down enormously too Borderlands 4. Over the course of about a month, fans were treated to some major updates to the game – attempts to improve performance, balance adjustments to various Vault Hunters, and tons of Golden Keys to obtain legendary items with minimal effort. But in recent weeks, Borderlands 4s update rollouts have basically been non-existent. There have been updates, but they've been negligible at best, with the primary focus on restoring the game's weekly activities.
Of course, Borderlands 4 has been in a considerable dry spell of late, with next to nothing seeming aimed at keeping fans around. In fact, the game's last major update worth talking about was on October 23rd, almost a full month ago at the time of writing. For fans who first expected Borderlands 4with all its pleasures for live service, to maintain its interest in the long term, it is extremely disappointing. What's worse is that Gearbox has been teasing “new and exciting content” for the past few weeks, with no indication of when the content might arrive. However, there may be an end in sight for the long wait, with an excuse to dive back in Borderlands 4 potentially just around the corner.
Borderlands 4 has been teasing content for weeks
These teases largely began on November 6, then Borderlands 4 creative director Graeme Timmins responded to a fan on X with the statement, “We're working on a few things and hope to put some more information out in a roadmap text. Lots keeping us busy at the moment.” Since then, both Timmins and the official have Borderlands 4 The X-Side has mentioned upcoming content, with Timmins specifically pointing to the eventual announcement of a roadmap built around player feedback. The creative director has understandably been tight-lipped about the roadmap, even telling a fan “I hate to promise and not deliver” in another response.
On the same day, a minor patch was released for Borderlands 4 which targeted a couple of passive skills and the drop rate of a phosphene weapon – but that was it, aside from the usual weekly reset. Then November 13th rolled around, and with the teases from Timmins the week before, it was assumed that the game would get at least a little more than it actually did. Unlike almost every update before it, the November 13th update wasn't really an update, just an announcement that Borderlands 4s weekly activities had been restored.
Borderlands 4's next big update may come along with its first bounty pack
Now is the only thing ahead of us Borderlands 4s first Bounty Pack, How Rush Saved Mercenary Day. How Rush Saved Mercenary Day will launch on November 20th and is the first installment of paid DLC for Borderlands 4and will bring with it a new story, new equipment and new cosmetics for players who have purchased it. While it will undoubtedly offer those who own the DLC a reason to get back into the game, it may do nothing to draw in those who don't, who are still hoping for a free update of some sort that will renew their interest.
However, it is highly likely that Borderlands 4 roadmap Timmins and the rest of the crew have mentioned in recent weeks will land alongside the release of the game's first Bounty Pack on November 20. Since the team hasn't mentioned the Bounty Pack in these teases, it stands to reason that the update will be separate from the DLC, continuing the trend that Borderlands 4 maintained for approximately one month after launch. As such, it looks like there may actually be an end in sight for this dry spell Borderlands 4 has been included, even for those who don't plan to play the DLC. We hope that on November 20, 2025 it will be over.
