Pokemon Legends: ZA has come out just a few days ago, and it's already divided the fanbase with some polarizing new features and the lack of traditional ones, or even because of its sometimes buggy or poor gameplay. With Pokemon Legends: ZA When they get bombarded by reviews, it's no wonder there are some disgruntled fans, whether it's because some Shiny Pokémon are practically impossible to catch when they disappear or because of the game's lengthy tutorial. The game obviously isn't for everyone, and it might upset another part of the population when they find out that Mega Steelix and Scizor are almost impossible to get.
Pokemon Legends: ZAs new Mega Evolutions can be post-game rewards in some cases, such as when Pyrorite and Malamarite only become purchasable for Mega Shards after beating the game and getting Mega Zygarde. While this doesn't make much sense, it gets worse for fans of some of the most popular Megas out there. Mega Steelix and Scizor have always been some of the most beloved Megas in the series, though Pokemon Legends: ZA don't give them much love for several reasons:
-
Scyther is only available in Pokemon Legends: ZA's Wild Zone 13, which is unlocked after Mission 14.
-
Onix is only available in Wild Zone 14, which is unlocked after Mission 19.
-
There is no link cable in the game, meaning Scyther and Onix must be swapped while holding a Metal Coat to evolve.
-
Metal Coats are infinitely available after the game, but before that, players must be Rank A (quest 35) to unlock the side quests that give one each (Steadfast as Steel and A Feather from Skarmory).
-
To trade with other players, one must pay for the Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
-
There are no reported cases of wild Steelix or Scizor so far in the game, meaning they may be purely for trade.
-
You cannot transfer previous versions of Steelix or Scizor to Pokemon Legends: ZA.
For all these reasons, it's clear that Mega Steelix and Scizor aren't actually easy to come by, and they might be some of the last Pokemon you get – if at all. This is especially bad considering how early Steelixite and Scizorite can be obtained.
Pokemon Legends: ZA makes getting Steelix and Scizor unnecessarily difficult
Given that much of the game's content is timed behind completing story missions, it's no surprise that Onix and Scyther aren't early catches, or that Metal Coat is hard to come by. However, it makes very little sense to have Steelixite and Scizorite available immediately at the Stone Emporium while Metal Coat is end game, and trading is necessary to unlock Steelix and Scizor in the first place.
Shiny Mega Steelix and Scizor are practically impossible to get in Pokemon Legends: ZA
On top of that, shiny Pokémon enter Pokemon Legends: ZA can be harder to trade, meaning fans wanting a shiny Mega Steelix or Scizor will have an even harder time getting them. This is because they need to find fellow players who have met all the necessary conditions to get Steelix and Scizor and have an NSO subscription, and they also need to look for a shiny evolution trade.
Sure, there is Pokemon Legends: ZA trade codes now to simplify things, but without any chat and random people participating in the trade, it's incredibly difficult to find someone who wants to trade a shiny Onix or Scyther for a Metal Coat. This is a very odd move for Game Freak, and it's unclear why Mega Steelix and Scizor in particular got the short end of the stick.
