The game landscape is blessed with quality offers, where the horror category also has a wide range for players to choose from. Resident evil Has perfected almost all aspects of this genre, with the original games as a mixture of horror and action. Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 twisted primarily against action with occasional frightening moments, while Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Returned to horror but shifted to a first personal perspective. Village aims to find a middle ground between the two, largely succeed in the process; Meanwhile, Capcom has visited some classics through generally fantastic remakes.
Resident evil is undoubtedly the most famous horror game franchise of all time, to the point that there may be fans of Capcom's series that have largely neglected most of the genre's other offers. Consequently they miss some of best horror play like Resident evil.
Updated October 13, 2025 by Mark Samt: Resident Evil Requiem is still about three months away, so you have to look elsewhere if you want to get your tension on. So we have added two more horror games similar to Resident Evil who may be able to fill that void. They are both slightly rough (Maid of happens and day: 1998), but they have their positive effects.
The Last of US Series
Post-apocalyptic horror masterpiece with strong writing
One of the most decorated video game properties of all time, Naughty Dog's The last of us imagine a world that can realistically be Resident evilThe worst result if the virus was allowed to spread uncontrolled. In addition to the somewhat similar monster, the 2013 edition is a third person shooter that is something similar Resident Evil 4albeit with a heavier focus on stealth; Still, in terms of play, Resi Fans should not have it too difficult to adapt to The last of usRhythm, and this also applies to the sequel.
Narratively, Naughty Dog focused more on the characters of the games and took them on personal stories that lean on elevated and psychological horror areas rather than B-film entertainment. One type of history is not necessarily better than the other, but it makes too many different tones.
Survive
An influential and very frightening horror play
Although not very similar to Classic Resident evilThe Survive May have affected Capcom's attempt to soft restart the franchise with the seventh post, which marked a transition to a first personal perspective. Resident Evil 7The family section shares quite a lot in common with Red Barrels games, including revolving around a protagonist who is largely defenseless against roaming enemies. Capcom found a way to shake up the formula to create an experience that is 100% Resident evilBut fans of Ethan Winters first scary adventure will want to check out in 2013 Survive And its sequel, provided they enjoy the first post.
18 outlast -characters who cooled us to the leg
Good horror games create characters that are completely scary, and the outlast series managed to give us figures to escape and hide from.
Located in Mount Massive Asylum, Survive Press a journalist who wants to discover what exactly happened in this hospital before it was closed. Caught inside with just one camera, players will constantly find themselves split in the dark to try to stay away from the various horror that are in this hell. While some beats may be missed during a playthrough, Survive Tells a fascinating story that is rich in (horrible) Lore.
Maid
Resident Evil 1 Vibber
Let's now go after a game that is slightly less known than such Survive or The last of us. Maid are out on most major systems, and it is a solid and short first person horror play that seems to take some pretty obvious inspiration from the early Resident evil game. The story takes place because of a hotel, and you steadily go through the scary place while solving puzzles and mostly try to avoid enemy meetings. The struggle is very limited and not something to trust, although it is an alternative in difficult situations.
Similar to the original Resident evilThe Maid Do a good job of immersing yourself in a nightmare but known world and forcing you to face the fear forward with temporary weapons but mostly your mind. While I would recommend keeping expectations slightly low, horror fans should search this one.
Crowish land
A new PS1 -FACK
Even if you do not hide its impact, Crowish land Do a good job of expanding and developing them to create something modern and unique. Because of its stylistic backgrounds and doll -like character design, SFB's game directly screams “1998 PS1 Survival Horror”, and an estimate of classics such as the original Resident evil Trilogy is likely to be someone's foremost motivator to pick up this 2024 indie edition. However, Crowish land differ in some important ways.
Perhaps most important of all, despite what its images can suggest, the game chose wise to copying tank controls, instead deliver a fairly modern interpretation with some backwards nods. The campaign focuses mainly on puzzles, with battle that takes a rear seat and is largely avoidable if players just want to sprint past enemies. The amusement park setting is a frightening treatment that encourages exploration through its three main regions.
Foreign: Insulation
Intensive sci-fi horror play
A challenger for best Foreign ALWAYSThe Foreign: Insulation is a survival horror masterpiece. Although they do not completely lack weapons, players spend large pieces of the game and try to avoid Xenomorph.
Foreign: Insulation Takes one of the horror's most iconic villains and revives them and restores this scary creature as a force to count on. This is xenomorph from Foreignnot Foreign predators. Although not so comparable to the third person Resident evil game, Foreign: Insulation should hit a chord with fans of Biohazard and to a lesser extent, Village.
Shadows of the damned
More comedy, less horror
Produced by Shinji Mikami and grasshoppers manufacturing, Shadows of the damned Went through a tough development cycle that saw it practically turning into another game at the end. The finished product plays as a comic version of the action -focused Resident evil Titles, as a player, lead a demon hunter through the underworld to save his girlfriend.
Put aside some mini games that do not deliver, Shadows of the damned Playing well for a third person shooter. The game's fantastic environments and creative monster design are the real stars, although the characters are also quite fun.
The devil can cry
Born by Resident Evil's Ashes
As fans of both franchise sure know, The devil can cry Originally started as Resident Evil 4. In the end, Hideki Kamiyas Team took the project in too different to go as another post in the horror series, which led to the creation of the 2001 century The devil can cry.
Every devil can cry games, ranked after difficulty
Devil May Cry Games has always been known for their difficulties, but some are extremely brutal and unforgiving in their overall challenge.
Split into assignment and drive actions at the forefront, The devil can cry Movements at a blowing pace when players try to stylishly take out all kinds of enemies by mastering Dante's different weapons and movements. Similar Resident evilThe The devil can cry Has lots of puzzles and a ghoulish environment. The series would expand the battle in later records, but the original The devil can cry is the closest Resident evil.
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Adopt Resident Evil's Blueprint
1992's Alone in the dark was a landmark edition in video games horror, and it almost affected later projects such as Resident evil and Quiet hill. However, the franchise lost rapidly, and in 1994 and its third numbered mail, Alone in the darkCore concept felt tired. The IP would not return until 2001, and The new nightmare Debuted in a completely different climate than its predecessors. Surprisingly, the game took some ideas from the popular PS1 survival scares that redefined genre, while still respectfully retaining the feeling of atmosphere that characterized the original Alone in the dark.
In a franchise that largely consists of good but hard to visit (1992 Alone in the dark) or terrible editions (Lighting, The new nightmare Can only be the best Alone in the dark Games, or at least the one that modern players can fight the least to enjoy. The 2001 game is visually impressive for its era, especially its lighting effects.
Daymare: 1998
A resident evil lone that has problems, but also charm
To be sincere I hesitate to recommend Dagmer games (1998 and 1994 Sandcastle). They are both deeply wrong horror play that respects Resident evil Without really getting close to catching their magic. They are clumsy, rough, slightly buggy and prone to frustrate rather than fun moments. The games are also leaning too much to the action area, but the battle is not really good enough to carry that side of things.
Nevertheless the developer's love for Resident evil shines through during every single moment, especially in creature design and places. Therefore, if you are a deadly fan of Capcom's franchise and don't care about a rough adventure, Daymare: 1998 And its sequel/prequel is worth considering.
Dino Crisis Series
Resident Evil With Dinos (& by Capcom)
Basically Resident evil But with dinosaurs, Dino crisis Maintains many elements that helped make Capcom's zombie franchise so loved. Puzzle, limited inventory, tank checks and confined spaces are present and reported in the original Dino crisisAnd the dinosaurs produce lots of memorable meetings even though they are not very scary.
Dino Crisis 2 Is more a straight up action game, and it is perhaps the best in the series. While the franchise would continue to produce another main post and a spin-off, they are not good and should only be played for the supplementary purpose.
