Aspyr has removed AI-generated content from Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered After being sued for their inclusion. AI has appeared in games more often as the technology has developed, and although its use is almost always controversial, some games have encountered harder answers than others over it. For Tomb Raider IV-VI RemasteredIt is not only led to criticism but legal challenges.
The original Tomemas Trilogy received a remastered collection in early 2024 to generally favorable reviews. Aspyr followed it up with the next three 2025, and while critics were mixed on Tomb Raider IV-VI RemasteredPresumed improvements to the originals, lower review results were not its only concern. The game is now facing an AI-centered scandal, and Aspyr is actively trying to solve it before it grows into slightly larger.
Tomb Raider IV-VI removes the AI voice acting in the middle of its ongoing trial
An update published on Aspyr's support website said a new update was to “remove all AI -VOICEOVER -content” from the collection. The move comes after Lara Croft's French voice actor, Françoise Cadol, Aspyr Media sued over Tomb Raider IV-VI RemasteredThe use of AI to claim to replicate her voice without her knowledge or permission. According to the mood, Cadol did not learn about the AI copy of her vote until the fans told her about it after an update in August 2025, and she has requested courts to decide how many copies of the collection has been sold to compensate her accordingly.
The update that warned Cadol for the use of AI added new voting lines, which may have stood out more for the fans than the older lines. It is also not the only one such correction that comes to the collection Tomb Raider IV-IV Remastered Restored cut dialogue in a previous update. It is unclear how much of this previously not released content was generated or whether all dialogue in the game uses the technology or just a few lines. Regardless of any detail, the use of AI, however extensive, has caused a fairly movement.
It is unclear whether or to what extent aspire that removes the AI content from the game will affect the mood. The patch notes do not appear in anything about the case beyond admitting that the use of the technology was “unauthorized.” Tomemas is far from the only title that meets backlash over generative AI recently. Blizzard recently removed a Overwatch 2 AD over an AI art controversy, and Microsoft has come under fire to replace many dismissed employees with AI. How the use of technology in games will continue from here is uncertain, but fans and some artists involved in the industry are clearly dissatisfied with it.
