Final Fantasy 14The time at Playstation 4 can come in the end than some fans may like. That detail was provided by Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida himself, who discussed Final Fantasy 14The future of the future and a number of details on future content.
Final Fantasy 14 has largely packed the main story about Dawntrail, the latest expansion and goes against Final Fantasy 14Next story bow. Fans wait with crowded breath to see what Final Fantasy 14 Will do the next, especially when the reception of Dawntrail is mixed. But players who have played on PS4 may not be able to rely on their console to carry them very far into Final Fantasy 14S future.
Final Fantasy 14 Driver PS4 support to the limit
In an interview with Feed4gamers, Yoshi-P was asked about the game's ongoing support from the aging console and pointed to similar games that have dropped PS4. Yoshi-P SidostEgg confirms if the game would still be playable on PS4 when the game's next expansion or 8.5 launches, but explained that the game reaches the limit for PS4. Yoshi-P says that Sony has hardware regulations “related to the limit of data”, and that the developers had previously received an increase in the limit from Sony himself. However, Sony has apparently informed Square Enix that it reaches the limit on how far it can drive the system.
Yoshi-P confirmed that he and the team want to support as many platforms as they can as long as possible, but that the hardware will eventually be “at its limits when it comes to their technology.” When that time comes, PS4 support will end. But he also added that before that happens, he would personally give clear reasoning and communicate it directly to the players.
Those in Final Fantasy 14 Community that is still playing on PS4 may want to consider upgrading in the near future. PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PCs can play the game, and Yoshi-P previously stated that Square Enix has had “positive discussions” about the possibility to bring Final Fantasy 14 to Nintendo Switch 2, so it can be an alternative. PS4's aging hardware also meant that it did not receive as many graphic improvements as PC, PS5 and Xbox series X versions, so those that upgrade can enjoy seeing the world again when switching to a newer console or PC.
