GTA 6 Publisher explains its limited support from Xbox Game Pass, PS Plus

Take-two interactive Has shared updated insights into its strategy for subscription services and challenges the somewhat popular view that its support for platforms such as Xbox Game Pass and Playstation Plus is limited. And although the company may not agree with what constitutes “limited”, it indicated that not many of its games are likely to agree to subscription services in the foreseeable future, in relation to the total size of Take-Two's ever-growing content library.

The effects of the Xbox Game Pass and other subscription services in the industry have been a warmly discussed topic since their emergence in the 2010s. Ditto for their overall business viability. While many smaller companies easily embraced the opportunity to add their titles to such third -party catalogs, larger publishers have often remained cautious or conducted their own subscription models. Since it started to offer games to GTA+ members, take -two Interactive falls in both camps.

Take-two is not against subscription services — if ultimately makes sense

But GTA 6 Publishers would not necessarily agree with the “reluctant” categorization, with take-two Interactive President Karl Slatoff who proposes just as much during a beginning of August 2025 calls with analysts. As first discovered by GameSpot, the CEO claimed that the group remains willing to embrace subscription platforms, even if it is sporadic. “We sometimes put our titles into some of the subscription services,” Slatoff said, while we noted that the bottom line still has to make sense for such a move to happen. “We wouldn't do it if it wasn't a good financial business.”

Such a “good economic business” was recently materialized, with Grand Theft Auto 5 Joining the Xbox Game Pass for the fourth time in six years back in April 2025. Slatoff noted that take-two is not the only one approaching subscription partnership with caution, which suggested that neither Sony nor Microsoft would pay to fill their catalogs with third party titles if it was not sensible.

Take-two's attitude on day-one launches have not changed

The comments are in line with Take-Two's long-term unwillingness to release their games on subscription services at launch. As far back as in the early 2020s, when analysts began to consistently squeeze the company on the issue, Take-Two argued that the day an editions on platforms such as Xbox Game Pass is not sensible from its perspective.

We sometimes put our titles in some of the subscription services … We wouldn't do it if it wasn't a good financial business.

NBA 2K games were on PS Plus and did well – but not because of PS Plus

Speaking of the positive effect of subscription services during the conversation in August 2025, Slatoff acknowledged that such platforms “obviously” drive commitment, which in turn generates income. He made the remark in response to a question about the result of the latest NBA 2K Titles on Playstation Plus. Although the take-two last reported what Moffettathanson analyst Clay Griffin described as “exceptional growth” in NBA 2K The segment during the conversation, when it was pressed for more information, made up Slatoff that PS Plus did not play any “meaningful” part in that performance.
