Magic: The collection Has undergone a lot of changes in the past year, beginning with the addition of a core set in semi-perpetuity for standard with foundations and then making changes in the legality of the universe in addition to sets. Since the UB sets became standard-law, this has caused a shift regarding publishing schedule, where there have already been four sets this year with two more on the road, and 2026 looks to keep the same strategy based on WOTC's comments. MtgS Final fantasy Set sold $ 200 million in products in a single day, which shows that these UB sets are here to stay. But not all their cards should receive the same treatment.
Whether intentional or not, any new cards from MtgS Final fantasy Set has proven to be quite powerful in terms of games, and there is potential for several cards from both Spider-Man and Avatar: The Last Airbender to follow. All sets turn out to have some big hits, regardless, but it can be argued that UB emissions have a higher chance to include some fairly strong cards that reshape methane in one or more formats. Since this is the case for Vivi Ornitis, the coast's magicians may need to bite the ball and ban it in November.

FfVivi ornitier is broken in Magic: The collectionAnd there is some evidence of the opposite, if not at all. It is a cheap card to play with a cmc of 3 (1 generic, 1 blue and 1 red), and it has a series of busted abilities. The first one allows players to generate mana in Izzet colors (blue and red) equally Vivi's power, and surprisingly it does not require mana spent or vivi to knock to activate. The other allows Vivi to get a +1/ +1 counter and ping each opponent for 1 damage when the owner throws a non -creation spell.
This is also quite broken, since the restriction is only “non-creation” rather than “immediate or sorcery formulas”, which means that it can be abused in several ways with 1-man cantrips and mana stones, artifacts, enchantments and so on. In addition, the mana capacity on the card Vivi OP in Izzet Cauldron tires MtgStandard format, as you can give it to all creatures by simply rejecting Vivi from the cemetery. This also means that theoretically, a removal is useless against Vivi in the Izzet Cauldron tire, and it can instead be counterproductive.
Last week, tournaments had a ridiculous number of Vivi tires used, with the card which basically accounted for about 50% or more of the current meta share. Given how strong Vivi Ornitis are and has been since the introduction and given WOTC's statement in the ban in June 2025 for Mtg When it comes to methadomy of a given tire, it is only fair to assume that Vivi would be banned. In fact, this was the criterion used for Cori steel cutters and other cards.
It can be argued that banning a card from the best-selling product in the game's latest history can be a bad feature on the part of WOTC, but not banning Vivi would set a problematic precedent for all OP cards from UB sets.
However, the next possible prohibition window is in November 2025, and the sorcerers in the coast have said that it does not really want several Mtg Standard ban per year, so this may fall in the first prohibition window 2026. If WotC is true for its own statement, Vivi should, however, be banned in November 2025 as an “emergency ban” due to its dominance in standard.
The thing is that WOTC could then address the issue by banning accessories cards, such as Agatha's soul cauldron, instead of banning Vivi himself. This would only be a band aid solution, as Vivi is really too strong when it comes to what it brings to the table, and without Agatha's soul Cauldron it would still be played in Izzet competence tires, and then maybe other archetypes created by the Spider-Man set in September or November Avatar sed to Mtg. The question may arise again for eternity if measures are not taken, and since it seems unlikely that it is legal to release an error in a wrong one.
Why to ban Vivi may be necessary in magic: the collection
Vivi is a powerful card, so that the magicians for the coastal designers also acknowledged that they had exceeded it based on current tournament results and participation. Originally, it would be dropped to generate Mana, and although it would have been a much less interesting card from the start, it would also have been more balanced. If Magic: The collectionNew Avatar cards or Spider-Man cards end up in their own right, the same discussion will need to be done in the near future.
The problem is that this may be a losing loss situation for the coast sorcerer, as prohibition of vivi would lead to potential losses in terms of Final fantasy Set and future UB sets, but not to do anything or ban accessories cards can then damage the game's integrity. Prohibiting Agatha's soul cauldron makes sense, especially considering that it is a relatively old card now, but it only works if Wotc does not add other cards that make an OP combination with Vivi, which seems quite unlikely.
