As far back as I can remember, I have had Nintendo consoles in the house. I remember getting Nintendo Entertainment System as a combination of birthday/Christmas present in 1987. It was the beginning of what would be a lifelong fandom that would see me excited to get (almost) every console that the company released. Like many of you, I skipped Wii U. I do not regret anything.
Now Nintendo is back with Switch 2, and it gives me Wii U Vibes – regardless of Mario Kart World. The rest of the launch titles are not exciting; It looks and plays like an updated switch that does not have the OLED screen in the latest iteration of its predecessor. And yet, when Walmart started them this week, I bought one, and I'm not really sure why.

Nintendo Switch 2 Review: A predictable yet undeniably impressive development
After spending a long week with a new console, we are ready to give our judgment on Nintendo Switch 2.
Don't misunderstand me, I am very excited to sit down with my switch 2 when it arrives at my door later today. I'm sure the first thing I will do is install Legend of Zelda: A link to the past on yet another device and start playing it. From there I will play a scary number of hours on what I have on all other Nintendo consoles – once again, except Wii U, I'm just human – and love it. Was it a wise idea, however?
A launch, incorrect
A quick look at the games available at launch shows why some have noticed Switch 2 as a $ 500 Mario map machine. And although I have no doubt that Mario Kart World is an excellent game and will order a surprising amount of my waking hours eventually, the puzzling choice to have a Mario Kart title is your primary launch game, rather than a Mario Bros. Or Zelda Adventure, is a disappointment. At least, from my point of view it is. From a sales perspective, Mario Kart Games routinely sells Super Mario Bros. -Titles. Only on the switch sold Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – which was basically an upgrade of the same title on Wii U – almost 70 million copies, compared to Super Mario Odyssey's less than 30 million, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild counted over 32 million copies.
Although there are several gates of games from other consoles, which is cool if you only play games at Switch, this is the most disappointing Nintendo launch title since Nintendo 64 – again I pretend that Wii U does not exist. But N64 had the generation-defining Super Mario 64, and nothing on Switch 2 has quite So much speed. When I look at the next few months, the only title I can see myself is lost in Donkey Kong Bananza. Unless I do not have to install WWE 2K25 on a third platform, which is fully possible. Who knows what kind of nightmare the island is on a switch 2?
Note: N64 Online had two launch titles: Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. Both are fantastic.
A very expensive emulator
So what is there to do? I will use the Switch Online Library – which has been redirected Nintendo Classics – pretty much on Switch 2. I am an older player and I absolutely love to go back in time and visit the very old, very dated games in my childhood. I will play my fair part of Mario Kart, I guess and download Fortnite for when I travel and simply need a question. The problem is that I could do all this – and play the majority of the games now on Switch 2 – without actually buying one.

Ranking every nintendo home console with how many games were available at the launch
Each Nintendo home console launched with a different number of games, but which one had the most?
As someone working in Games Media, I can do a case to buy one. I will play games on it for review, and hopefully it will inspire an endless list of ideas for me to share with the world. But despite the Wii U launches, the Nintendo launches are usually more exciting than this. It makes sense that there is no new Zelda title, given how recently tears in the kingdom were released. But why is there not a Super Mario Bros. -game? At least we know why the Odyssey team did not work on one; They developed Donkey Kong Bananza.
New New Super Mario Bros. When?
Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a side-scrolling platform player, was released in 2023. Super Mario Odyssey, however, was a Switch launch title Back 2017. Isn't it time for a follow-up?
Certainly there will be a new Mainline Mario title introduced to Switch 2 at some point. At the moment, however, it is difficult for me to keep Switch 2 with high attention. Although it is sold incredibly well since the release – one metric Nintendo probably cares – this time does not have the special Nintendo feeling in the past. Instead of feeling like a technical hope forward, we paid new console prices for an upgraded old console.

Nintendo Switch 2: How to make a system transfer from your old switch
Here's how to transfer your data from Switch 1 to Switch 2!
And yes, I regret that I bought Switch 2 and considered canceling the order after I placed it because this change I am in makes me crazy. My actual The relationship with my partner is not somewhere as dramatic as the situation I am in with Switch 2. But this is where Nintendo has left me, worried about buying his latest edition. And yet, if I got the alternative, I would do it again right now and still regret it. Video games are complicated.
