Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was a surprise success, especially considering that it was a whole new series from a new team of developers. It was so successful that it had reactionaries who claimed that “tour -based games are finally back”, but toured games never went anywhere. It has been a consistent stream of fantastic toured games that were released every year, so what was it with Expedition 33 that made it stand out over all these games?

Square Enix has acknowledged that it is very “conscious” about how much we all love Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Here, the awareness hopes to lead to more tour-based final fantasy games.
While Clair Obscur is really a turn -based game, it shifts lots of genre conventions to feel like a distinct product, so what lessons can other toured games learn from Expedition 33's success?

Shorter stories
Take up the pace
Although not true for all tour -based games, most toured games, especially if they are RPG, tend to be massive. If you have a significant order stock with games you want to deal with, while you may be tempted by a tour -based RPG, the average driving time can put you, especially if you can't guarantee that you will actually enjoy it.
Although Expedition 33 contains lots of side content, for a completely satisfactory journey through the fantastic main history, you only need about 30 hours. 30 hours are not short in any way, but it is much shorter than most toured titles, and its stimulation means that it is quite a quick feeling 30 hours too.

More mystery
Keep us in the dark
Thanks to its haunting prerequisite for a post-apocalyptic world where the maximum life is cut by a year, every year Clair's Obscur's world is immediately engaging and full of mystery. World -building is effective, and you leave for clues about how this society works and the truth behind its more unclear details.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – 10 things to do after you beat the game
If you are done with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, don't worry: there is still much to do after you beat the game.
Although there is no lack of tour -based games that keep their cards close for most of the story, there is a difference between not knowing anything and actually being interested in the mystery. Instead of pieces in pieces for shock exhibition, do gradually and efficient world -building and exciting central mysteries a much more inviting story.

Linear party member
Stay in your lane
With tour -based RPGs, the battle can be transformed into a bit of a number game during further examination, which is why some titles will pat on the back by providing fully adaptable party members, letting you shape and grind your team to the most effective damage possible. But with fully adaptable party members, the individual members begin to lose their identity and only become a unique distribution of statistics and perhaps some signature skills.
Although there is room for adaptation in Clair Obscur, each of its party members has a unique central mechanic, and there is no chance that you can mix any of them. Having distinct party members who exceed the genre expectations for different classes help make the team in Expedition 33 stand out.

Don't be afraid to integrate other genres
Free yourself from tradition
If you crush, the game with toured titles can start to melt together. As one of the longest standing sub -genres in games Technically No reason to fix.
Although it is not the first swing -based game that lends from other genres, you can say when playing Clair Obscur that there were no restrictions to stick to a previously established structure, and it makes it feel like a completely unique experience. Whether it is exploration and mini -game platform, or the distinct incorporation of action mechanics to add a more active element to fight – it helps everything to give Clair Obescur the X factor needed to feel unique.

Unapologetically inspired
French representation
This is not an attempt to paint Expedition 33 as the only tour -based game with inspiration. It would be a rough error representation; Rather, it is an observation that Clair Obscur successfully leans into her inspirations to create a one-of-a-kind style and aesthetics.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Every Gestral game, ranked after difficulty
Let's see which of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's Gestral Games offers the most challenge.
With a few swing-based games, the style can feel like a Hodge pod of genre-booklets and stops feeling bland. Comparatively, Clair Obscur ensures commitment to its fusion of the French Belle époque era with classic RPG traditions that the images of the game will stick to you.

Undertake to change the formula
Prompting
While you often find toured games that take steps to integrate new mechanics or unique features that make their games stand out during marketing, when you actually play the games, you may be disappointed with how little these new features actually affect the game.
The action mechanics included in Expedition 33's tour -based battle drastically change how the battle feels compared to other swing -based games, and mastery of this mechanics requires effort, effort that will be rewarded. If you want to include unique mechanics, make sure they are refined, influencing and not just thanked.
2
Do not require grinding
Artificial difficulties free
Working through the story of Clair Obscur is well, partly because of its length below average compared to its colleagues with toured titles, but also because of how little you are required to grind. It almost feels like a standard for tour -based games, that even on a standard difficulty there will be periods of games where the progression will stop, and you have to grind for experience.
If you learn Expedition 33's mechanics, you never need to grind to complete the main history, and if you go out of your way to complete side content, you can even end up trivializing some of the challenges. Although challenging tour-based games are not in itself bad, it must not be seen as standard, even if it is a genre tradition.

Older
No more teenage dreams
It should not be as refreshing as it is, but the majority of party members in Expedition 33, who are in the 30s, really help it stand out from a massive part of toured titles. Although it is understandable that there is an abundance of teenage protagonists and party members throughout RPG's history, it comes to a point where it feels like you actively need to find to find a role of characters that are not mostly high school.
The more mature role of Clair Obscur helps maintain the more serious tone of his story, and it also helps the party members to feel that the kind of people we (unfortunate) must not see so often in play.
