Resident Evil Requiem will be the ninth main chapter in Capcom's horror franchise, and it again shakes up the series with a whole new protagonist. The first trailer for Resident Evil Requiem Already promises a bold departure, as FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft is investigating a murder of the mysterious Wrenwood Hotel and teasing a more psychologically charged experience of action.
While Grace seems to be the main character of history, there are already rumors that she is not the only protagonist being planned. Until the disclosure of the first trailer, there were many rumors and leaks to indicate that Leon S. Kennedy could return. Of course, all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, but if he really returns as a second playable character, Denial may be the test site for a new recording of Resident Evil 5 And its co-op.

Resident Evil Requiem finally pops into unknown territory for the franchise
With the next Resident Evil title revealed, Requiem looks to explore a horror land that the series is not really deep yet.
If Resident Evil Requiem goes the double-protagonist route, it may bring back Re5's co-op mechanics
- Re5The campaign supports both local and online co-op.

The first player checks Chris Redfield, while the second controls Sheva Alomar.
Re5 is a prominent post in the series for several reasons. From the game's environment in the fictional African region of Kijuju to Jill Valentine who is under Albert Wesker's Mind Control, the chapter takes interesting shipyards that are worth visiting with a new recording. However, one of the best aspects of the game is that it can be played completely in co-op. With two players, Chris and Sheva can fight through infected as they investigate the latest threat of bioterrorism.
Requiem Launches February 27, 2026.
Leon as potentially is part of Requiem's story would open the door for co-op
Right now it is not much known about Grace Ashcroft. On June 26, Capcom hosted a showcase containing many of its largest franchise and Resident evil expected to appear. It is unclear whether Capcom will reveal more about Grace at this event, but hopefully there will be some more insight given in what kind of role she plays in the story. At first glance, she seems to have a much milder personality than one might expect from someone who has been commissioned to investigate a murder, but there may be a cruel character that is below the surface.
If so, Grace and Leon could potentially be a mirror image of Chris and Sheva, with Grace as the other playable character, if Leon is revealed to be the secret protagonist. Even more exciting is that it can also give Capcom new feedback on a co-op campaign. If Denial Can balance co-op well and fans like it, then it may be the assurance that Capcom needs to bring a Re5 remake to life.
Grace Ashcroft is the daughter of Raccoon City Investigative Reporter Alyssa Ashcroft, which appeared in Return. She was also murdered at the Wrenwood Hotel eight years before DenialS story.
A RE5 remake must make co-op a priority
Re5 was the first game in the series designed with a co-op campaign in mind. It is a central part of its identity so leaving co-op from a Re5 Remake would be extremely scrubbing. It may be uncertain about Denial have two main characters or not, but Re5 would be a strong plan to adjust two main characters. There is always the opportunity to Denial could go earlier Resident evil games with two leads and just switch between them, but take Re5 Approach can be the stronger choice, as it would shake up expectations.
It may be a while before Resident evil Fans get one Re5 Remake, but if that day ever comes, it seems wrong to leave Co-op from the experience. From now on, Denial Waiting on the horizon, and it will be exciting to see how the game is approaching its protagonist (or characters).
