ODA revealed in 2015 that he did not actually plan to draw the back story about Señor Pink in manganese. But his editor at that time was very moved by Backstory Oda wrote for this character. Because of how his editor felt about the backstory, it was decided that it would be added to manganese.
If the editor was not so moved by it, it is likely that this backstory would have just stopped being revealed in an SBS or may never. Some words could never have moved the readers as a full -fledged backstory, so it was definitely a good choice to include it in manganese.
After all, the chapter ended with Señor Pink's backstory as very popular, and many fans would not have taken hold of his character without it.
It really makes fans wonder how many other characters had back stories written for them without ever making it manganese.
