If you are doing the main tasks because you do not want to miss any side assignments, do not worry, because you can continue to play the game after you have beaten the story.
It's easy to see why so few players have beaten the main history so far. Oblivion Remastered is full of some truly iconic side assignments, with many of them some of their own stories through the different guilds. The thieves' guild is especially loved among players, so it is more likely that players are running around and rob citizens of Cyrodiil than to help them.
That being said, you will probably want to at least do the Kvatch part of the main search before you start exploring. Rocks means the level scaling that you can have a bunch of very powerful enemies thrown at you if you take the time. Don't leave Martin wait.
There is one thing that is more unpopular than ending the main story right now – to complete the Shiving Isles DLC. This comes with Oblivion Remastered at no extra cost, but players take the time to come to it.
