Another fan-favorite aspect of Ghibli films is the beautiful romantic stories that bloom between the characters. Hayao Miyazaki continuously knocks out of the park with every movie he comes out with. Whether it is a will-they-not-the situation or a friends-to-lovers' slow burn, Studio Ghibli movies have many wonderful couples to show that love is really real.

Ashitaka and San

Princess Mononoke

In the 1300s, the balance between humans, animals and gods has slowly deteriorated. The protagonist, a young man named Ashitaka, is infected by an animal attack and is banished from his village to find a cure from the deer -like God, Shishigami. When he goes to Iron Town, he is forced to see the horror that people cause to the earth, and gives Wolf Good Moro's anger Moro and his human companions, who absolutely hate people.

The two come into contact several times and are practically lucky to save each other's lives, which ultimately leads to San realizing that the two can restore the balance with the help of ashitaka. The two have undeniable chemistry and although San tries to kill Ashitaka several times, he is still fighting for her and the things she cares about. In the end, they choose to live in their own areas. Ashitaka is healed and finds a new home, and San stays close to him in the forest and shows that they still have love for each other.

One of the best things about Studio Ghibli movies is how they show young love. One of these conditions is between Kiki and Tombo. In accordance with her witch training, a young Kiki moves to a city city with her talking cat, Jiji, to spend a year alone. After learning to control her broom, she sets up a flying bid service and quickly becomes a fixture in society. But she begins to doubt herself and quickly realizes that she has lost her powers and forces her to overcome her self -doubt to get her powers back.

The two are forgetting dazzled around each other, but eventually they work up to be close friends and even go on an unofficial date. Although their relationship is not exactly the budding romance we are used to, it is still as sweet with their friendship. And honestly, that's what a good relationship needs: a strong foundation.

Ponyo and Sosuke

Ponyo

In the same way as Kiki and Tombos dynamic, Ponyo and Sosuke show the strong foundation that a good friendship can have for a budding relationship. The little mermaid-Esque story follows a Goldfish Princess forbidden trip to the surface, who meets a little boy named Sosuke. After giving her the name Ponyo, she slowly becomes more human similar the longer she stays on the surface, and the two must fight her father to stay on the surface.

Their friendship and love defies the odds. Sosuke accepts Ponyo for everything she is and the little goldfish is so determined to stay with him, it is adorable. In the end, Ponyo can stay ashore with Sosuke, and we imagine that they are growing even closer, and so does their relationship.

Sheeta and Pazu

Another underestimated gem in Ghiblis catalog, Castle in the Sky, is the first film that debuted under the production company. A young orphan named Sheeta is kidnapped by the evil Colonel Muska, trying to find the mysterious floating city of Laputa. Sheeta has the key to the city via a magical crystal around her neck, which fortunately helps her escape from colonel and cross roads with a boy named Pazu. The couple comes together to find the city, all while being persecuted by both Muska and a bunch of pirates, who desire for the city's rumored treasures.

The relationship is the typical dynamics we are used to with Ghibli movies: A boy meets a mysterious girl and falls in love. But in this movie, the two have an immediate connection and often save each other from Doom several times. While they do not meet directly, no one denies that there are any feelings that are shared between the two.

Taeko and Toshio

Only yesterday

An unmarried career woman, Taeko Okajima, flees from the city of Tokyo to visit his family in the countryside Yamagata during the annual Safflower harvest. On the train daydream Taeko about her younger self and reflects on the person she is now. As her vacation progresses, she wonders if this is the life that her younger I would have wanted and in the process, meets a young man named Toshio.

Toshio helps her work through the harsh memories and reality of the situation and helps her to deal with the fact that she is really happier in the country – and with Toshio. In the end, Taeko accepts a marriage proposal from Toshio and decides to stay on the farm with him. It is an unexpected romance that just shows that love really works in mysterious ways and when we least expect it.

Jiro and Nahoko

The wind rises

Studio Ghibli is known for pulling on our hearts, and in the wind you rise you will want to hold a box of tissues at hand. The film follows the fictional story of Jiro Horikoshi, a Japanese hunting pilot during the Second World War. The central action focuses on his journey through life and highlights the relationship that develops between him and a girl named Naoko. The two fall in love and get married, get the happy end they deserve – just to discover that Naoko has tuberculosis.

Despite the diagnosis, the two remain together as long as they can. Naoko continues to support her husband and encourages him to live for a long time after she has left him. It is a heartbreaking end that shows that love can exceed life and to life after life.

Chihiro and Haku

One of the most popular Ghibli films on this list, Spirited Away, follows ten-year-old Chihiro, which is forced into the spirit world to save their parents, which have been transformed into pigs. On her journey, she is forced to work in a bathhouse that turns to these spirits and has her name removed from her by the evil Yubaba. Along the way she meets a boy named Haku who just happens to be the breath in the river Chihiro fell in when she was younger.

Like other couples, Chihiro and Haku continue to save each other from the different challenges they encounter. In the end, the two are forced to go their separate roads, but Haku promises to find her again in the future. Even though they are not together right now, it only shows how close their connection is, and we hope that the two will be together again.

Howl's Moving Castle definitely has one of the best couples from Studio Ghibli. Sophie, a nonsense hatred, crosses roads with the notorious magician Howl Jenkins-Pendragon, who regrets the evil witch of the waste. After turning Sophie into an old pasture, Sophie Howl takes to help her change back, all on the background of a magical war.

While Sophie may have been the one who arrived HOWL's help, it was the magician who needed her more than she needed him. The two are undergoing a major change in the end, but Sophie helps him realize his humanity again. In the end, the two end up together and start a relationship and stop together in the magician's moving castle.
