The superhero genre has become one of the most successful in modern entertainment, thanks to no small part to gigantic franchises such as Marvel Cinematic Universe and AAA games as Marvel's spider and Marvel Rivals. But while Marvel is still sitting on top of the world (despite some recent MCU macar), DC are still trying to gather their action.
The last decade has been a pretty mixed bag for DC. While DC has had some commercially successful investments, critical successes have been few and far between. It is especially true for DC's video game department, which has not been able to post a truly successful title since 2018. But the DC universe is in the middle of a complete review, and that restart may be exactly what DC's video game needs.

James Gunn's DCU may be the light at the end of the tunnel
During the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new DCU has officially begun, with Item commanded Marking of the new start of the universe. Although it was far from perfect, Item commanded Laid some exciting building blocks for DCU, blocks that hopefully will be used to create a much larger, better and more coherent DC Cinematic Universe.
But the new DCU not only gives the eyes of movies and television. When James Gunn first announced the upcoming slate of DCU projects in early 2023, he mentioned that Canon video play that was put in the universe could be on the cards in the near future. Just a month ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed that they worked closely with JB Perrette, the head of Warner Bros. 'Video game department, and that they had talked directly to Netherrealm and Rocksteady developer.
But in an interview with Comicbook, Gunn also stated that the first DCU game is at least “a couple of years”. So even though it currently feels like DC is losing the ball completely in terms of video games, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, albeit a weak and distant.
