Downfall Creator John Romero has responded to colleague ID software veteran Sandy Petersen on social media and corrected his claim that he wrote the original game's backstory. In recent years Romero has shot back to some of Petersen's statements about DownfallDevelopment, which aims to highlight the history of the legendary game.
Downfall is one of the titles that hardly need an introduction. This revolutionary FPS, which was released in the 90s, not just changed how the world saw video games – it transformed how the industry approached the genre forward. Many factors cemented their place in history, but one of the most significant was its frenetic, fast shooting games, which still hold up more than 30 years later and essentially set the standard for future titles. Now Romero is pushing back to what he considers error information about the game's history.

Classic Doom games make an unexpected comeback
Some classic doom games from the 90s make an unexpected comeback with improved versions on several modern gaming platforms.
Takes to Twitter, Downfall Creator John Romero questioned details about the game's development history, which was shared by former ID software member Sandy Petersen. Petersen had responded to a meme that criticized the classic Downfall Lore, calls it simplified in comparison with DownfallS modern backstory. Petersen got up to defend the game while he claimed he was also responsible for writing the original Downfall Backstory. In a fairly passive-aggressive response, Romero disproved his claim and stated that ID software founder Tom Hall wrote Backstory.

Romero further explained that Kevin Cloud wrote Downfall Manual on Nextstep, summary game's back story on the first page of the manual. In response to a Twitter user, Petersen claimed he had no access to Downfall The Bible when he wrote the manual, and therefore, was the two-sentence cabinet in the manual originally written by him-even about Romero denies this version of events.
This is not the first time Romero has corrected error information about Downfall. As he explained in a follow -up, he believes that video game history is “critically important”, especially in such an influential title. He even described Petersen's claims as a way to “reclaim to someone else's credits.”
While the details of the game's history remain in dispute, players continue to go through and enjoy it. The classic Downfall Recently received an update on several platforms and adds multiplayer and mod support. If Romero and Petersen will ever agree on DownfallHistory remains to be seen.
