Horror games put players and characters in hopeless situations, confront them with such scary images and situations that they can lose hope of ever escaping with their reason and all the optimism they were intact, or even doubt their odds of survival. It may be a more realistic reading of their situation, but it doesn't make it any more nihilistic.

This type of hero can be rare beyond those who keep hope for a brilliant light to guide them to safety or have enough courage to recharge right forward in danger to fight. Yet these characters are still there.

Heather Mason (Silent Hill 3)

Becomes desensitized to the horror

Silent Hill 3 is a continuation of the plot line in Quiet hillBut players control Harry's daughter Heather, who is now a teenager with an attitude to match, even though she still has a soft place for dear old dad. She is quickly introduced to the nightly second world on her return home, must face scary monsters that defy all explanation and logic. She just has to meet more monsters and more scary creatures when she starts on a mission to avenge her father.

Everyone in her situation would find their ideals shaken, and this applies to Heather, who becomes more desensitized for monsters. Although this makes her one of the most courageous horror protagonists of all time, it also means that she is quite nihilistic. In addition, Heather is the last fight against God reborn, and it does not become much more nihilistic than that.

Amnesia Was one of the most popular indie horror games in its time and put several sequels and a very thriving modding community that adds custom levels and maps to the game. The vanilla game follows the story of Daniel, a man who wakes up after losing a drink to erase most of his memories. Through a series of flashbacks and notes spread over the gloomy castle, he bites back why he removed his memories and what he must do next.

It turns out that Daniel must kill Alexander, who manipulated him to commit some abominable acts, and the drink was his way of dealing with what he did. The blame hangs heavily over Daniel's head, and it has driven him to the point that he would watch murder and reveal how Jaded Daniel has become. Given the traumatic upbringing he suffered, idealism was probably never part of Daniel's personality, even without the newer events he endured.

Ellie Williams (The Last of US Series)

A hard life has shaped her character

Growing up under a zombie apocalypse, no child would ever have the same hope, innocence and light as children born in a normal life. Unfortunately for Ellie, she is the former and even more pressing, she can be the key to finding a cure, as she has proven to be immune to the bite. In order for the cure to be extracted from Ellie, she would have to die. Joel finally decides not to go through it so that Ellie can return as the playable character Part 2.

Even before the events in the first game, Ellie is tough as nails and tangled something to the world and everyone in it. She is quick to prevent the lives of those who existed before the apocalypse and is extremely irreverent for Joel before eventually warming up to him. Even after finding love and a revelation of happiness, Ellie is quick to start a revenge mission to kill Abby, even if it means losing yours and the life they built together.

Mun brushing is one of the best indie horror games that are released of all time and handles sensitive situations with care and respect for presenting a truly haunting and grounded experience, even if it takes place among the stars. Jimmy acts as both the protagonist and the antagonist, which makes him one of the most complex playable game characters of all time.

When the disillusioned co -captain to curly, the Jimmy vessel ornament to crash in an asteroid, and blames it on the seriously damaged curly with little regard for who was injured or killed, may even hope it would kill everyone. This happened shortly after the revelation, they would also be unemployed after the last delivery, which led to many crew members panicking and led Jimmy to grow nihilistic in terms of his own and others' lives.
