8 strongest characters with personal transformations, ranked

Super Saiyan was the best transformation for Dragon Ball series ever since Goku unlocked SSJ fighting Frieza on Namek all the way back in DBZ. With the debut of Ultra Instinct in Dragon Ball Supers Tournament of Power, however, Dragon Ball changed the game by more or less removing different levels of Super Saiyan in favor of personal transformations unique to different characters.

Personal changes are the best Dragon Ball Super have done for the series, transforming shapes into a genuine expression of each character's personality and skills. Between Ultra Ego Vegeta and Gohan Beast, Dragon Ball Forms simply mean more when they're not just paint jobs that any character can unlock with almost no effort or narrative weight.

Super Saiyan Gohan crying and Kid Goku in prison

Dragon Ball's Official Voice of Goku & Gohan imprisoned for property theft

The voice of Kid Goku and Kid Gohan in Dragon Ball was arrested earlier this year in Tarrant County, Texas for theft of property under $2,500.

Super Saiyan Rage Future Trunks is basically a god form

In it Dragon Ball Super anime, Future Trunks unlocks Super Saiyan Rage, a unique transformation with barely any information on it that hasn't been seen since the final battle with Zamasu. Super Saiyan Rage visually looks like an intermediate form of Future Trunks Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan Blue.

It is implied that Future Trunks absorbed some of Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta's God Ki while the two were training together earlier in the Goku Black Saga, much like how Vegeta picked up God Ki naturally while training on Beerus' Planet under Whis. Super Saiyan Rage Future Trunks isn't an overwhelmingly powerful form like other personal transformations, but it represents Trunks' ironclad will to do whatever he can to save his future and gives him enough power to split Fused Zamasu in two (for what little good it ultimately does him).

Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black is what happens when Saiyan Ki, God Ki and Kai Ki Mix

Super Saiyan Rosé is a version of Super Saiyan Blue at its core, but completely unique to Goku Black due to his body's blend of Saiyan Ki, God Ki, and Supreme Kai. Notably, Super Saiyan Rosé is actually the first personal transformation to debut in Dragon Ball Super (since Golden Frieza was actually introduced in a Dragon Ball Z film and not Dragon Ball Super Right).

Super Saiyan Rosé makes Goku Black much stronger than either Goku or Vegeta, and represents his chimera-like nature as a character. Goku Black may have Goku's body and DNA, but he fully possesses Zamasu's ruthless mind and personality. Super Saiyan Rosé is a regal form that perfectly matches Zamasu's inner Goku Black, setting him apart from the more rustic Super Saiyan Blue forms that Goku and Vegeta use in most Dragon Ball Super.

Planet Moro literally merged with Earth

Ultra Instinct Goku and Planet Moro

Fun is the only one Dragon Ball villain who can use Ultra Instinct, but his most unique and powerful transformation occurs when he fuses with the planet Earth itself. After absorbing Meru's angelic powers, Ultra Instinct proves too much for Moro's mortal body to handle, as he slowly begins to wear himself out. In a desperate bid to survive, Moro's instability allows him to merge with the Earth itself.

Planet Moro is extremely strong, capable of draining energy from any living thing above him. Goku almost fails to defeat Moro outright, only getting the death blow thanks to Vegeta's use of Forced Spirit Fission and a massive Ki donation from Uub, who reincarnated with Majin Buu's God Ki intact. The planet Moro represents Moro's instability and constant need to consume at an extreme level.

Orange Piccolo finally competes with Goku and Vegeta after years of falling behind

Akira Toriyama created Orange Piccolo so that Piccolo could finally compete with Goku and Vegeta in terms of power level after years of falling behind all along Dragon Ball Super. Orange Piccolo may be the weakest of the Dragon Ball Supers five main characters, but he is one of the few characters powerful enough to make a difference against Black Frieza for the upcoming final saga.

Orange Piccolo is, at its core, a form of fanservice – which is fitting given that Piccolo was always Akira Toriyama's favorite character. Orange Piccolo puts Piccolo back in the running, and he'll hopefully continue to do incredible things in the Black Frieza Saga instead of being sidelined like he's been in every arc between the Majin Buu Saga and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Ultra Ego Vegeta only gets stronger the more he fights

Ultra Ego is Vegeta's answer to Ultra Instinct – literally, actually. Where Goku focuses on refining his instincts, Vegeta channels his ego and power into a transformation that better suits his personality and skills. Ultra Ego allows Vegeta to grow stronger the longer Vegeta fights and the more damage he takes, two perfect traits considering how often Vegeta gets his ass kicked.

Vegeta first unlocks Ultra Ego while fighting Granolah in Granolah the Survivor Saga, which quickly turns the tide against Cerealian. Unfortunately for Vegeta, his mastery of Ultra Ego is so rusty that he continues to deplete all of his energy before he can deliver a final blow. However, once Vegeta masters Ultra Ego, he will be no match for Goku.

3

True Ultra Instinct Goku found a way to stack his forms on top of the UI

Ultra Instinct isn't a form unique to Goku by any means, but True Ultra Instinct absolutely is. During Granolah the Survivor Saga, Goku learns how to activate Ultra Instinct whenever he wants, even when his heart and mental state are not calm. This turns Ultra Instinct into basically any other transformation, but has the added benefit of Goku being able to use all of the Ultra Instinct Sign's benefits.

True Ultra Instinct allows Goku to stack his various Super Saiyan forms on top of it, giving him all the boosts of Sign with all the power multipliers of his god forms. During his fight with Granolah, Goku uses both Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue on top of True Ultra Instinct to give himself faster reaction time and a higher power level. By the end of the arc, Goku's mastery of True Ultra Instinct is so refined that his strength is comparable to his regular Ultra Instinct form.

Dragon Ball: 12 Strongest Demon Realm Characters, Ranked

The Demon Realm is a complex world with overwhelmingly powerful characters that can challenge Dragon Ball's strongest Z-fighters.

2

Gohan Beast is the strongest Z-fighter form by a mile

Gohan unlocked his Beast form at the end of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero after Piccolo pretended to sacrifice his life while fighting Cell Max, to bring out Gohan's anger. Gohan Beast is in many ways an extension of Gohan's ultimate transformation from the end of Dragon Ball Zwhich brings all of his latent potential seen throughout the series to the surface in an extremely powerful form.

Unlocking the Gohan Beast, Gohan is once again the strongest Z-Fighter and was even able to knock Goku out of Perfected Ultra Instinct while the two sparred in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero many epilogue chapters. Gohan Beast utilizes Gohan's potential to surpass everyone around him, mixed with his emotional nature being the source of most of his raw power.

1

Black Frieza is a nightmare brought to life

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 The case for Black Frieza

Black Frieza is not only the strongest personal form in Dragon Ball Superit is the most powerful transformation in the entire franchise. In his debut, Black Frieza not only managed to kill Awakened Gas in a single hit, he knocked out both True Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta with a ridiculously fast punch that neither character was quick enough to react to. Black Frieza is the peak of Frieza's power, a fierce form born from Goku's biggest mistake: humiliating Frieza and encouraging him to train.

Black Frieza has been set up as the series' next (and likely final) villain, but it's unclear who will be able to beat him. Gohan Beast is extremely strong in his own right, but he isn't to much stronger than Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku at the end of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Things are not looking good for the Z-Fighters as long as Black Frieza is around.
