71 percent of PC gamers will never use Nvidia DLSS 5, poll reveals

Last month's Nvidia DLSS 5 showcase was met with memes and outrage. While most of the internet DLSSified images as a joke, others spoke out about how the “AI-enabled photorealistic lighting and material generation” looked like just an AI filter and would ruin unique art styles. Obviously, not many players liked it.

Of course, it's hard to quantify sentiment through memes and tweets, so PC Gamer decided to run a poll among its readers to understand where they stood when it came to using DLSS5. Rather than just a “yes or no” poll, this one included options for how good or bad players thought it looked as well.

Confirm what we already knew

Can Nvidia convince you to use DLSS 5?” asked the poll, with the following options and results:

As good as it looked, I am ethically against it and would never enable it

37%

It looks awful, I would never use it

34%

I'm already convinced

10%

If only it looked better

10%

I would use it on some games

9%

Out of a total of 4,484 votes, it's clear that most people don't care how good it looked, it's unethical and they would never use it. Right behind that, players thought it looked terrible and wouldn't use it. A whopping 71 percent say they won't use Nvidia DLSS 5 regardless of how it makes games look.

Only ten percent of players are fully convinced to turn it on if a game had the option. As for the fringe options, another ten percent think it's a good idea, but would only use it if it looked better than the storefront. And finally, only nine percent said they would use it on some games. My guess is that it would probably include games that don't have good visuals in them.

Nvidia confirms DLSS 5 overlays AI-generated imagery over games

GeForce evangelist Jacob Freeman explained that DLSS 5 isn't baked into a game, instead it looks at individual frames and studies a flat image.

Obviously, most gamers aren't interested in what DLSS 5 has to offer, whether it's based on principles or just how it makes games look. Maybe Nvidia could have convinced more people if the showcase didn't make it look like a glorified AI glam filter.
