Attack on Titans The diverse cast of characters is a big part of why the series became the worldwide success it was during its run. It's not just Eren, Mikasa and Armin who managed to attract fans throughout the course of the series. Attack on Titan has an incredibly strong supporting cast, with the series offering fans different points of view to consider, allowing you to understand the motivations and struggles of different characters.
But just like any other series out there, you also have some characters that people just hate. For some it's well deserved, but for others it's a bit more complex. It cannot be denied among all Attack the Titans characters, these are some of the most disliked among fans.
7 Things Attack on Titan does better than any other Shonen anime
When it comes to these things, Attack on Titan is just way ahead of the competition.
Elena
Yelena played a major role in Attack on Titans final season, serving as a secondary villain during the final part of the story. As a member of the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers, fans have many reasons to dislike Yelena. Her actions and attitude throughout her time on the series definitely made it hard for anyone to see any good in her.
Yelena is a dangerous fanatic whose almost godlike reverence for Zeke led her to manipulate and murder people, all for the sake of Zeke's ideals. By the end of the series, fans got to see a variety of characters with different extremist views come into play, but Yelena stands out in the worst way.
Sergeant Major Gross
So much of the conflict in Attack on Tian focuses on how past transgressions can allow people to constantly tear each other down in a perpetual cycle of revenge and retribution. Sergeant Major Gross represents the absolute worst part of humanity to come out of that cycle.
Gross used his position within the public security agencies to abuse and oppress the Eldians living in Marley. An incredibly sadistic and racist man who wanted to kill all Eldians, he was responsible for countless Eldian deaths, including Grisha's younger sister, Faye, whom he had torn apart by dogs in an act of incredible cruelty. He eventually got his comeuppance, but fans still hate his guts.
Rod Reiss
Rod Reiss is hated by fans mainly because of how he treated his daughter and fan favorite character, Historia. Reiss allowed Historia's mother to be killed, abandoned her, and only tried to bring her back into his life when he needed her to kill Eren and take his power.
But being a bad father isn't the only thing fans have against him. Rod is a coward who pushes the burden of his ideals onto his children. He cared more about his family's power than his family themselves. He's not necessarily the worst person in the series, but he's not someone you'd root for either.
Fritz
In a series full of horrible people, Fritz is without a doubt the absolute worst. There is no nuance to him, no good explanation that excuses his actions, just an evil man who stands as the root cause of all the suffering and death we see throughout the series.
The old king of Eldia was a power hungry monster, conquering, enslaving and oppressing people all in the name of expanding his empire. We don't see much of Fritz, but what we do see tells us all we need to know. He is the worst person in the franchise and will forever be remembered as the cause of so much suffering in the Attack on Titan universe.
Floch Forster
Like Yelena, Floch is a good example of how someone whose idealism and blind faith in the wrong person can end up down a terrible path. As a member of the Yeagerists, Floch was one of Eren's most useful pawns towards the end of the series. He became so consumed with the idea that Eren's plan was the only way for the Eldians to find peace going forward that he turned on his former allies without a second thought.
Fans get to see Floch's downfall as opposed to some other characters who are only presented as evil or on the wrong side of things, but that hasn't helped his standing with the fan base all that much. For many, Floch's actions and willingness to sacrifice humanity are far too horrific to overlook.
Zeke Yeager
Like his brother, Zeke is a well-written character that gives fans a good look at how the generational trauma and ongoing cycle of hate in Attack on Titan affect those who get caught up in it. But Zeke is much more of a hated character than his brother, despite the latter being responsible for even worse atrocities.
We see how Zeke's upbringing and environment shaped him into the self-loathing psychopath he is. But as much as we understand why Zeke turned out the way he did, it doesn't do much to excuse him for taking so many lives and trying to wipe out the Eldian people. At one point, Zeke just became an annoying obstacle that most people were happy to finally see go.
Gabi Brown
Gabi gets a lot of hate from the fans, and it feels unfair sometimes. She was created to offer a different perspective, while being similar to Eren in many ways. But the odds were stacked against her from the start.
Gabi is incredibly stubborn and arrogant, having been completely indoctrinated to believe that the people of Paradise were evil and deserved death and destruction. She gets some good development later in the series, but some fans just can't overlook her initial behavior. The fact that she killed off one of the show's most beloved characters doesn't help her much either.
