The crew of Whiten introduced anime fans to lovable and cool characters like Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, Chad and many more. Lots of Soul Reapers and even some Arrancars were fan favorites too, like Toshiro and Grimmjow. But not all in Whiten won over fans, as some character designs are just annoying.
Whether it was intended or not, some actors in the Whiten disgusted fans with his obnoxious and even problematic behavior. Perhaps these characters were written to serve as comic relief or contrast to the more serious characters, but it didn't work. Instead, Whiten ended up with some headache-inducing characters that the story – and the fandom – could do without.
10 Anime MCs better than Ichigo Kurosaki
Ichigo is a great protagonist, but these anime MCs are just better.
Keigo Asano provided Slice-of-Life comedy that no one needed
Keigo is the kind of character that inspired Minoru Mineta
The previous episodes of Whitenand some later ones too, included some high school shenanigans. It meant Whiten fans spent time with Ichigo's classmates, and some of them felt like ridiculous stock characters. The single worst offender is a certain Keigo Asano, a carefree and excitable student who gets way too turned on by attractive women. When My Hero Academia created the super pervert Minoru Mineta, the anime undoubtedly took some cues from characters like Keigo.
True, Keigo had a good scene where he helped Ikkaku and Yumichika find accommodation for the night after his older sister Mizuho agreed. Otherwise, Keigo is insufferable as a skirt-chasing cliché who clearly has nothing better to do. Some anime fans will be more bothered than others by Keigo's lustful ways, but all fans can probably agree that he's annoying and has no real strengths to lean on.
Chizuru Honsho has a crush on Orihime at school
LGBT anime characters can be so much better than this
Some of Ichigo's non-fighter classmates were tolerable, like Mizuiro, but not all of them. Aside from Keigo Asano, Chizuru Honsho was the most problematic and annoying character at the school, and for remarkably similar reasons to Keigo himself. Like Keigo, Chizuru is way too enthusiastic about chasing cute girls. But this also means that Chizuru is guilty of terrible LGBT/queer representation.
Bleach: Strongest Characters In The Anime, Ranked
The Bleach anime is full of powerful Shinigami, Sternritter and Espada. Here are the strongest characters.
Fortunately, Chizuru toned down like this in later episodes, and she didn't do anything like that during her short time in the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. But the fact remains that she overplayed her hand as a protective, obnoxious girl determined to protect Orihime from harm. Then, when Orihime “owed” Chizuru for that protection, Chizuru felt justified in acting completely inappropriately with Orihime.
Nnoitora Gilga seemed determined to make everyone despise him
Nnoitora's motives were shallow and outrageous
It was a given that many of the villainous Arrancars would be impossible. At least some of them were halfway likable, like Coyote Starrk and Tier Harribel, and some were cool, like Grimmjow and Ulquiorra. But there is no defense for the 5th Espada, Nnoitora Gilga, who was simply too obnoxious to carry. He shared Grimmjow's dream of being the most powerful Arrancar of all, but his methods of getting there left much to be desired.
While Grimmjow had some semblance of honor and fair play when fighting Ichigo, Nnoitora glady fought dirty and even verbally defended that strategy at one point. Worst of all, Nnoitora is a male chauvinist who stated his opposition to any woman stronger than him or other male warriors. There was hardly an in-universe call for it either, as Soul Reapers, Quincy, and most other Arrancars apparently have no problem with powerful women like Yoruichi, Bambietta Basterbine, and Harribel.
Hiyori Sarugaki is Yet Another Violent Tsundere in a Cast Full of them
Hiyori is a much worse Rukia
The Whiten Anime can get away with writing cool characters who mix charm with a sharp tongue and short fuse, from Ichigo and Rukia to Riruka Dokugamine. However, that formula went sour with minor hero Hiyori Sarugaki, one of the eight Visored warriors. Hiyori wasn't really one terrible character, but she was irritated Whiten fans by being yet another violent tsundere.
Hiyori almost made fans sympathetic during a flashback sequence, where she missed Captain Hikifune, who had been like a mother to her. Then Hiyori ruined it by hotly rejecting Kisuke in the face and even kicking him between the legs. Hiyori hardly played it down during her Visored days either, often attacking Shinji and Ichigo, with or without provocation. Thankfully, Hiyori toned it down a bit more in the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, making her marginally more tolerable.
Candice Catnipp's temper and vanity made her an annoying Sternritter
Candice's reckless temper also got her into trouble on the battlefield
Sternknights, like the Arrancars before them, were bound to be unpleasant people most of the time, given their antagonistic role. That said, some of these Quincy felt cool or compelling, like the goofy Askin or princely Jugram. As for the all-female Bambis troupe, fans loved the feisty Bambietta, but her friend Candice Catnipp is a different story. At best, Candice is redundant with Bambietta as a hot-blooded Quincy girl who fights ruthlessly.
10 Strongest Bleach Characters (Right Now)
These are the strongest characters Bleach has right now.
At worst, it also makes Candice annoying as a rowdy supporting character who lacks a likable or cool side to balance out her hot-headed antics. What's more, Candice pestered both Ichigo and the viewers with slurred dialogue and silly arguments, such as whining when Ichigo got his carefully styled hair dusty. As for motives, Candice was eager to personally kill Ichigo to get a favor from Yhwach, but the selfish goal meant little to Whiten fans and only made her more tiresome to watch.
Marechiyo Omaeda delivers results like a braggart, but just barely
Sui-Feng needs a new lieutenant in Squad 2
Squad 2 Lieutenant Marechiyo Omaeda will sometimes put his money where his mouth is, like when he fought Nirgge Parduoc in the fake Karakura Town. It was actually fun watching Marechiyo trick that Arrancar into thinking he was slow and helpless, only to surprise Nirgge with his lightning move. Other than that, Marechiyo is just bark and too little bite.
It's vaguely amusing to see a burly, vain man like Marechiyo serving in a group of ninja-like Soul Reapers, but the novelty wore off sooner rather than later. Soon Marechiyo felt like a gag being played out, and only the annoying parts remained. Marechiyo had far too little personal growth to fill the void, even including the time he fought hard to protect his family from BG9.
Loly seemed to exist purely to torture Orihime in Las Noches
Loly couldn't choose someone her own size
Whiten has a notable number of annoying hotheads, often female ones, who did more harm than good when it comes to charming anime fans. Another example is the minor Arrancar named Loly Aivirrne who together with his friend Menoly Mallia bullied Orihime. That seemed to be their only role in the story, giving Orihime a problem for Grimmjow to fix for her as a villainous anti-hero.
Loly's motives were far too shallow and self-serving to be anything other than upsetting to watch. For whatever reason, she harbored a serious crush on the villain Sosuke Aizen, feelings that Aizen certainly did not return. Obviously, that crush served a purpose: to make Loly jealous of the attention Aizen was giving Orihime as his special guest at Las Noches. To round things off, Loly acted tough but never backed it up with her actions against enemies like Grimmjow, Yammy, and Quilge Opie.
