7 characters who fought against Boruto and should have won

The Boruto the series never misses a chance to deliver intense battles involving its titular protagonist, Boruto Uzumaki. It's one of the best ways to scale his strength, test his limits, and show how far he's grown as a shinobi compared to the other characters in Boruto, whether they are from the next generation or the older generation.

Boruto: Kishimoto Officially Confirms A Character That Can Beat Baryon Mode Naruto

Baryon Mode is strong, but it can't beat this overwhelmed Boruto character.

With each victory, Boruto simply proves that he is worthy of representing the Uzumaki name. However, there are certain battles in the series where other characters should arguably have come out on top against Boruto. Had Boruto not relied on cheating, Momoshiki Otsutsuki's possession, or help from his teammates, these opponents should have easily defeated him.

Momoshiki Otsutsuki

Momoshiki in the spotlight in the Boruto manga

  • Momoshiki Otsutsuki came to Earth with a rather familiar goal in mind: grow a god tree and devour its chakra fruit. It was a simple plan, but due to the quick intervention of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, it didn't come true. Even worse, he ended up losing and dying at the hands of none other than Boruto Uzumaki, who was just a budding ninja at the time of his attack.

Without Naruto and Sasuke's combined efforts to weaken him, Momoshiki's loss to Boruto would seem almost impossible. After all, Momoshiki is still an Otsutsuki with god-like abilities that can wipe out Boruto in an instant. Boruto also lacked the power to even make a dent in Momoshiki without outside help. If it wasn't for Naruto and Sasuke, Boruto would have had no chance of defeating Momoshiki at all.

Kashin Koji

Boruto main characters 2026

While Kashin Koji and Boruto Uzumaki are partners at the moment, they had a rough start in the series. Kashin Koji was a former Kara organization insider, making their early interactions tense and filled with nothing but mistrust. At some point they even fought each other, with Kashin Koji antagonizing Konohamaru Sarutobi and the members of the new Team 7.

Then Kashin Koji stopped the fight after seeing the power of Boruto's karma. Boruto easily absorbed Kashin Koji's flames and even broke through his sealing jutsu, showing a level of power that surprised even the former Kara member. However, if Kashin Koji had chosen to fight seriously, he would have easily overwhelmed Boruto and his allies with Sage Mode and Jiraiya's toad-based techniques.

Shoji

In the series' early story arcs, Boruto Uzumaki faced a tough challenge in Shojoji, the leader of the Mujina bandits who kidnapped Tento Madaka, the Fire Daimyo's heir. While Boruto's courage and determination in confronting a powerful opponent using the Corpse Clone Technique was commendable, Shojoji should have emerged as the rightful victor.

Boruto only managed to apprehend Shojoji due to Tento acting as a distraction, giving him an opening to hit him with a Rasengan. While the Rasengan didn't finish the job, Boruto's other teammates, Mizuki and Sarada, came to his rescue. Their timely intervention eventually led to Shojoji's defeat. If it wasn't for their solid teamwork, Boruto could have been swallowed by Shojoji in the end.

Like Shikamaru, Shikadai Nara is a brilliant yet relaxed shinobi. He usually lacks the motivation to do something unless he sees a clear reason or benefit. No wonder he initially refused to participate in the Chunin Exams, believing that his abilities were still unworthy of being recognized on such a prestigious stage.

However, after Shikadai found his rhythm, it was possible to even defeat Boruto Uzumaki in the second round of the Chunin Exams. Being a member of the Nara clan, he skillfully manipulated his shadow to trap Boruto, leaving him completely immobilized. That is, until Boruto tricked his way out of the situation by using the shinobi glove he was given by Katasuke. If it wasn't for the gauntlet, Shikadai could have won against Boruto in the anime.

Yuri

Yurui is from the Hidden Cloud Village and also participated in the Chunin Exams during the Versus Momoshiki arc. Boruto. There he demonstrated his abilities to overwhelm opponents with his kenjutsu and exploding bubble gum. He may not look like a competent ninja on the surface, but Yurui was able to overpower Team 15, consisting of Sumire, Wasabi, and Namida, with his unique jutsu.

More impressively, Yurui also managed to overwhelm Boruto Uzumaki in the third round of the exams. Not only did he unleash several exploding bubbles to attack Boruto, but he also forced him to cheat and rely on the shinobi glove again. As a result, Yurui was robbed of a big win in the Chunin Exams.

Shinki

Shinki is yet another ninja who was robbed of a big win in the Chunin Exams, at least in the anime adaptation. As a Sand Village shinobi, Shinki had more determination than anyone else to make the Kazekage proud of him. While he did a great job defeating Denki, Iwabee, Metal Lee, Chocho, and even Mitsuki in the anime, all of his efforts to become the final winner ended in disappointment due to Boruto Uzumaki.

In the finals of the Chunin Exams, Shinki used his iron sand to take down Sarada Uchiha, as well as to overwhelm Boruto Uzumaki. He was so close to winning the last round, but Boruto cheated once again by using the shinobi glove to claim the victory. If it weren't for the shinobi glove, it could have been Shinki who came out the ultimate winner.

Code in Boruto with his face tattoo.

Before Code turned into a disappointing villain Boruto: Two Blue Vortexhe was strong enough to overpower Boruto and Kawaki after Amado Sanzu removed his limiters. However, Code was completely overwhelmed by Boruto after Momoshiki Otsutsuki took complete control of the situation by possessing Boruto and amplifying his powers beyond his normal limits. Instead of killing Boruto, he was forced to retreat when the situation turned against him.
