Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia has over the years become an iconic series. My Hero Academia surged in popularity after the end of the likes of Naruto, and sustained Weekly Shonen Jump for a decade as one of its mainstays. Unfortunately, after a successful run, My Hero Academia ended in 2024, and since then fans have been just looking for something to fill the gap. While nothing will ever truly replace MHA, these new comics can be a great read for fans of Horikoshi's masterpieces.
Akane banashi
Akane banashi is a Shonen Jump manga that has been growing in popularity lately, and it will soon be getting an anime adaptation. Akane-banashi isn't a Shonen fight like My Hero Academia, but it definitely shares some elements that fans would enjoy.
Akane-banashi takes place in a school setting and the protagonist, Akane, wants to reach the highest rank in Rakugo. The anime will air in 2026 for this seriesand many fans can't wait.
Kagurabachi
Kagurabachi is one of the biggest hits of the new generation Weekly Shonen Jump has to offer, and it revolves around great sword fights. The story sees Chihiro set out to retrieve the enchanted leaves, and if there is a direct replacement for MHA, it's probably this manga. Kagurabachi started in 2023, and based on reports, it definitely seems like the series will be getting an anime adaptation very soon.
Recently some interesting ones connections between My Hero Academia and Kagurabachi was also revealed. Many fans were surprised to know that Horikoshi, MHA's creator, was heavily involved in Kagurabachi's first chaptermonitors it. Horikoshi has also spoken about how Kagurabachi's creator, Hokazono, has previously helped him with an MHA chapter.
Ichi the witch
Of all the new manga out there, one that fans can't stop comparing to My Hero Academia is Ichi the witch. Ichi the Witch started almost immediately after the end of My Hero Academiaand many have referred to it as My Hero Academia's sequel series. In a world full of Majiks, women can use immense magic, and a young boy, Ichi, finds himself becoming the first male witch.
Ichi the Witch just turned one and it still has a long way to go. However, many fans can see similar elements between the two series, such as the main characters and even the power system. Fans can't wait until the day Ichi the Witch gets an anime and reaches new heights of popularity.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is one of the newest manga series to join Weekly Shonen Jump. As the name suggests, this series is a sequel to none other than Gege Akutami's beloved series, Jujutsu Kaisen. Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia both left Jump at the same time, and Modulo has been the perfect replacement ever since.
Sadly, Modulo will only be a short manga and will run for a few more monthsunless Gege has a change of plans. Nevertheless, so far, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has been fantastic, and an interesting change from the original series.
Gege's new manga
Gege Akutami is the creator of Jujutsu Kaisenand fans know that he finished his first manga not too long ago. For quite a few years, JJK series played side by side with My Hero Academia. Both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia ended togetherjust a few months apart. This definitely hit Weekly Shonen Jump magazine hard.
Still, Gege wants to make a comeback beyond Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Gege wants to create a new story, and it could very well be a big change from Jujutsu Kaisen. Whatever this new story is, fans know it's going to be huge, and anything Gege writes is sure to be huge and a potential replacement for series like JJK and MHA.
Horikoshi's new manga
Undoubtedly, if there is a manga that could really replace the gap that My Hero Academia has left behind, that is the new series Horikoshi plans to create.
Based on the information available, whatever Horikoshi creates will be one huge departure from My Hero Academia. But there will still be similar elements in writing, as both would share the same creator. It is unknown when Horikoshi's new manga will be releasedbut it's quite clear he's working on it already.
