The two main characters get their happily ever after as they face the next phase of their lives, as high school mind games are just the beginning. Life is much more than high school, and the main character knows it.
Death Note's Ending is a chilling reminder that ideas never die

Death Note is a case where the endings of the manga and anime feel both similar and quite different. The story of Light Yagami, the anti-hero genius, probably ended better in Death Notes manga, which features Light unable to escape his fate in that warehouse as Near watched. It was fitting how Light's fall was a public humiliation, including his ironic death at Ryuk's hands.
As a whole, Death Notes end is stronger than Demon Slayerends on many levels, including the theme of Light flying too close to the sun and receiving karmic justice for all he had done. It's also rare for shonen heroes to be killed off in their own series, but it felt perfect for the likes of Death Note. Most of all, the final pages impressed fans with the reality of Kira's cult outliving the man himself, with an unnamed girl praying to Kira with all her heart. The light was dead, but Kira held on, and it's scary to think about.
