5 Strongest Pokemon Ash Never Caught

Although he doesn't always evolve his Pokemon, Ash Ketchum of the original Pokémon the anime series has some fully developed allies. For example, his Charizard from the Kanto region is one of his most famous companions, especially as it rose from a tragic past. Meanwhile, Ash's Sceptile is calm, cool, and collected, and known for his speed and agility.

Despite this, there are several Pokémon that Ash never added to his team, either as fully evolved Pokémon or even as their basic stages. Many of these Pokemon fall into the category called “pseudo-legendary” by fans, due to their amazing battle stats despite not being legendary Pokemon. Others are not pseudo-legendary Pokemon, but have their own powerful legacies.

Absol can sense impending disasters

Many years ago, many believed that Absol caused these disasters

Deep within the mountains of the Hoenn region, a lucky Pokémon trainer might encounter a Dark-type known as Absol. This beautiful Pokémon is distinguished by its crisp white fur, navy blue claws, and a large crest-like horn extending from the side of its face. Absol is very reserved yet compassionate, with the ability to sense any disaster that threatens close to home. It will appear before people to warn them, but unfortunately it was once considered the harbinger of such chaos.

Thankfully, many people have discovered that Absol simply wanted to help those around him. Ash is one of those individuals, as he encountered a wild Absol that seemingly wanted to harm the heroes after they encountered Jirachi. However, it was soon discovered that this Absol was Jirachi's protector and only wanted to bring it back home. Ash has since encountered many Absols, but never added one of these powerful Pokémon to his roster.

Hydriegon is feared by many for his destructive powers

Some say it was humanity that caused the dark/dragon type to act this way

Pokemon Hydreigon Anime

The only known fully evolved Dark/Dragon type at the moment, Hydriegon is known for its terrifying and rather eerie appearance. Apart from the main head, it also has two smaller heads in place of the front feet. These smaller heads do not have brains; rather, they only know how to bite into whatever is nearby. There are stories of the brutal Pokémon destroying entire cities, but according to new Pokédex entries, Hydriegon was attacked by humans for its appearance long ago, resulting in its violent behavior.

In the games, Hydriegon is Ghetsi's main Pokemon, and it's clear that the Dark/Dragon-type absolutely loathes its trainer. Meanwhile, Hydriegon made his animated debut alongside Carlita, a descendant of the People of the Vale. Ash has encountered several Hydriegons, as well as their pre-evolutions Deino and Zweilous. Most of the Hydriegon that Ash has met are with their trainers, but with Ash's luck he was sure to meet and add one to his party.

Salamence is said to be the result of Bagon's dream

A Pokemon that should never get angry

The rare Dragon-type Bagon, although lacking wings, dreams of one day being able to fly. As such, it practices flight by jumping off cliffs, its head protected by the large shell of stone on top of it. After evolving into Shelgon, the Dragon-type rests in caves, where it awaits its final evolution. Afterwards, it will evolve into the Winged Salamence, where it flies through the sky at top speed due to its immense joy. Some say that this evolution was made possible by the intense wish the Dragon Pokémon made long ago as a Bagon, which affected its genes.

Salamence is as famous for its uncontrollable temper as it is for its lifelong love of flying. Despite this, many trainers have been seen with the Dragon/Flying type or its pre-evolutions. One such trainer is Zinnia, a main character in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Delta episodes; since it was her partner Pokémon, Zinnia's Salamence Mega could evolve into Mega Salamence. In the case of Ash, he has seen several Salamences, although he never captured one or its previous forms. However, since Ash has experience working with dragon-like Pokémon, he would surely make a good trainer for a Salamence.

A dinosaur-like Pokemon that loves to fight

Since the debut in Pokemon Gold and Pokemon SilverTyranitar has been a constant favorite among Pokémon fans. This dinosaur-like Pokémon is distinguished by its armor-like body, which provides its amazing defense; however, a wise trainer knows to keep this wild Pokémon away from Fighting-type Pokémon, as it is extremely weak against their moves. Despite this, many trainers wish to have one of these amazing Pokémon on their team. When Mega Evolving, Rock/Dark-type Pokémon become even more fearsome in terms of power and appearance, and will even disobey orders.

Because Tyranitar is often very independent and loves to fight, only a very patient and experienced trainer can work with Armor Pokémon. During their travels in the Johto region, Ash and his friends come across a lost Larvitar after it was separated from its Tyranitar parent. The whole group bonded with the cute pokemon, and although they were sad to say goodbye, they knew that the little pokemon would be better off staying with its parent than training with them. However, if Larvitar had stayed with Ash, there's no doubt it would be a fantastic asset to his overall roster.

Master Steven Stone's ace is a shiny metagross

While many pseudo-legendary Pokémon are dragon-types, Metagross is one of the few that does not fall into this category. An extremely rare steel/psychic type originally found in the Hoenn region, Metagross is said to have formed when two Metang combined. Since a single Metang is formed when two Beldum fuse, Metagross has four brains working together. As such, it has the intelligence of a supercomputer and can calculate its enemies' next moves and can even levitate in the air. This awesome Pokémon can also Mega Evolve into Mega Metagross, during which it becomes much more ruthless. According to the Pokédex, if Mega Metagross feels that it will not be able to defeat an opponent, it will dig its sharp claws into its enemy. It then begins a countdown until it uses the Explosion move, hoping to stun its opponent, even at the expense of its own HP.

Steven Stone, the gem-loving champion of the Hoenn region, has a Shiny Metagross that can Mega Evolve into Shiny Mega Metagross. Other trainers, such as Anabel, Paul and Alain, have also been seen with their own Metagross, acting as some of their toughest allies. While traveling in the Sinnoh region, Ash and his friends encounter a wild Metagross and its rival, Magnezone, who love to fight each other. Although Ash had the option to add both steel types to his list, he chose not to. But had Ash befriended the wild Metagross, he would have been able to win a number of particularly tough battles.
