The new year is already off to a strong gaming start, and February looks set to be an even busier month for gamers. In addition to long-awaited horror releases such as Resident Evil Requiem and Reborn animalJRPG fans are also treated to quite a treat this coming month with 4 significant games being released. While none of the JRPGs releasing in February 2026 are completely new experiences, titles like Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Ys X: Proud Nordicand Tales of Berseria remastered all offer plenty of welcome content that should keep fans of the genre scrambling.
Despite being largely a crop of remakes, remasters and ports, February 2026's lineup of JRPGs digs into some iconic franchises and brings back a wealth of new content for newcomers and veterans alike to enjoy. In some cases, this release will be the first time some players will have access to the game in full, as with Rune Factory: Guardians of Azumawhich until now has only been available on Nintendo consoles and PC. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is kicking off a month of JRPG releases, but that's not the only reason genre fans have to be excited.
The best plot twist in JRPG history has yet to be topped 16 years later (and it's not from Final Fantasy or Persona)
JRPGs like Persona and Final Fantasy have some of the most emotional stories in gaming, and a 16-year-old game sets the bar high in this regard.
The JRPG will be released in February 2026
- Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, PC) – February 5
- Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma (XSX/S, PS5) – February 13
- Ys X: Proud Nordic (PC, Switch 2, PS5) – February 20
- Tales of Berseria remastered (PS5, PC, Switch, XSX/S) – February 27
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined examines a JRPG classic from a new perspective
The Dragon Quest The series has seen quite a few remakes over the past few years, with the original trilogy receiving HD 2D remakes in the form of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake year 2024 and Dragon Quest 1 + 2 HD-2D Remake year 2025. Now, Dragon Quest 7 in line for a complete makeover with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. But unlike these other titles, Dragon Quest 7 will not be redone in the HD 2D art style and will instead adopt a full 3D diorama art style with HD textures and lighting.
Originally released on the PlayStation 1, Dragon Quest 7 could have been a candidate for an HD 2D remake with its original pixel art style, but it already got a remake on the 3DS in 2013 that brought the game to 3D. Building on that version, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined retains much of the same gameplay and story, but features new gameplay elements such as the Vocational Perks system and the Moonlight mechanic that allows characters to have two professions at the same time.
The 3DS version of the Dragon Quest 7 can no longer be purchased from the eShop as it has been shut down, making Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined a much more accessible option for players.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma breaks free from Nintendo console exclusivity
Even if Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma has technically been available since June 2025, it has been a Nintendo console exclusive and was even a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title. However, this console exclusivity ends in February 2026 then Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is making its way to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, giving those players access to the game for the first time. The game also released a PC version at launch, so it was never really exclusive to Nintendo.
The Run factory the series is not a traditional JRPG, although it does feature familiar action JRPG combat mechanics. Instead, it combines these combat features with the farming and life-sim mechanics of games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon creating a mix of cozy gameplay broken up by instances of fighting against corrupt monsters trying to attack the village players are working hard to rebuild. So far, there has been no word on whether Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma will be coming to Game Pass when it launches, but even having it available for purchase on Xbox is a win for the console's growing JRPG library.

Wonderful
It's been 30 years and we still never got a sequel to the best and most unlikely JRPG team of all time
There have been plenty of great JRPGs over the years, but this beloved gem from 1996 is 30 years overdue for the sequel it desperately deserves.
Another example of a game that has already been released but is back with new content for an enhanced experience is Ys X: Proud Nordic. Ys X: The Nordics was originally released in 2024, and players can access this original version on PS4, PS5, PC, and Switch. Now, Ys X: Proud Nordic takes the base game experience and kicks it up a notch to create the definitive experience for fans of the franchise.
The main claim to fame of Ys X: Proud Nordic is the all-new plot woven into the story of the original game. Players can now travel to Öland to experience a parallel story featuring new characters, Knud and Astrid. Along with this new story content, Proud Nordic also comes with significant graphical improvements, including a 120FPS mode for Switch 2, and all DLC from the original release.
The only downside to Ys X: Proud Nordic is that it doesn't offer an upgrade path for players who own the original version, meaning they have to pay full price to gain access to Proud Nordic' new content.
