Prince of Persia and 5 other games canceled by Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remake delayed

Ubisoft is canceling the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, despite expectations that it would be released this year.

60 fps patches now available for Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon and Primal

The updates were officially rolled out in the early morning hours (ET) of January 21st. They were preceded by a cryptic teaser that some fans correctly interpreted as alluding to choosing Far Cry games getting 60 fps support on PlayStation 5. Performance updates for Far cry 3, FC3: Blood Dragonand Far Cry Primal has also been launched for the Xbox Series X/S. The three games previously ran at 30 frames per second, so the act of doubling their frame rates should make for a much smoother experience overall.

New update also fixes Far Cry Primal PS5 crashes

While no official patch notes have been shared, at least one of the three games received additional improvements beyond 60fps support. According to multiple social media posts from Ubisoft representatives, Far Cry Primal should no longer experience excessive crashes on PlayStation 5 as of version 1.04. The company has confirmed that the issue was specific to the PS5's backwards compatibility layer, albeit without elaborating.

Ubisoft is still considering future updates for older Far Cry games

The official @FarCryGame Twitter account has engaged in a variety of interactions with fans due to the January 21st update. As part of one such exchange, one person asked to add a New Game Plus mode Blood Dragon. A Ubisoft representative said the feature isn't part of the developer's agenda at the moment, but noted that they could add it to their list of fan suggestions for the team to “keep in mind” going forward. Reading between the lines, the note indicates that the recently debuted 60fps patch may not have been a one-off and that Ubisoft is still considering some of its older Far Cry games that are actively supported.

In another social media exchange, a Ubisoft representative acknowledged a fan complaint about automatic weapons in the classic edition of Far cry 3 everyone feels the same way and said they would take it up with the developers. The complaint itself is years old and is largely rooted in the fact that the remaster reuses more weapon sounds than the original game, making certain weapons feel less impactful because e.g. MBP .50 sounds similar to AK-47 and SG5533. While the chances of this being fixed eight years after the game's release may not seem high, the fact that Ubisoft has acknowledged the complaint at all suggests that they are less than zero.

What's next for Far Cry?

According to job postings reviewed by Game Rant, a new Far Cry the game has been in the works at Ubisoft Toronto since at least 2023. The Canadian developer is now formally part of Vantage Studios, Ubisoft's flagship game-making family as a result of its recent restructuring. The move saw the group split into five “Creative Houses”, with Vantage branded as CH1, in charge Far Cry, Rainbow Sixand Assassin's Creed.

Provided Far cry 7— or the next installment, whatever the title — entered active production around 2023, it could be on track for a 2028 release, based on current AAA development timelines. However, that forecast remains uncertain, especially in light of Ubisoft's recent restructuring, which resulted in delays to several major projects. In a statement on January 21, the company confirmed that seven matches have been postponed due to the reorganization, although it did not specify which titles.
