Riot Games kicks off Season 1 of 2XKO with Caitlyn Kiramman joining the roster, although many players have probably noticed the odd launch time showing 2 dates. After a long development cycle, which included the original reveal that Project L back in 2019, 2XKO finally launched in Early Access for PC players back in October 2025. The launch included 11 characters with more to be added through seasonal updates, including the newest member coming very soon.
Based on Riot's incredibly popular League of Legends franchise, 2XKO gives fans another opportunity to enjoy the Runeterra universe even if the MOBA title isn't for them. 2XKO is a tag fighter that pits teams of two characters against each other. Although it can be played in the traditional 2v2 way, 2XKO introducing their own modifiers called Fuses to further customize their duo and playstyle, such as Juggernaut, which gives the scoring character power while removing assist options entirely. While 2XKO the roster may not be as large as many other fighting games, the characters available are quite unique and more familiar faces are added every few months.
2XKO: Why You Should Play Even If You Hate LoL
Riot Games' new fighter comes from the world of League of Legends, but it will be a completely different gaming experience.
2XKO Season 1 Release Times
After launching exclusively on PC in 2025, Riot Games is gearing up to add console players to the mix. Alongside Season 1, 2XKO announced its console launch date for January 20-21, 2026, which may be a bit confusing for some gamers. Mainly this is due to a time zone related situation as the date and time of the launch is set for January 20th at 5:00 PM PT for the US West Coast. This means that the Eastern time zone will see it available at 8:00 PM ET and international locations like London, Paris, Tokyo and others across the Atlantic will actually already be a day later, on January 21st.
The “Early Access” season of 2XKO gave players 2 new characters with Teemo and Warwick, while applying a number of balancing tweaks to the existing roster. For Season 1, Riot confirms the arrival of Caitlyn Kiramman, the Sheriff of Piltover. Caitlyn carries her hextech rifle and is more of a shooter type, so her gameplay seems to revolve around zoning tactics. Considering 2XKO is a 2v2 tag fighter, players will likely want to pair Caitlyn with someone who can cover ground like Vi.
While a known item from League of Legendsmany will probably also recognize Caitlyn as one of the main characters from the hit Netflix animated series known as Secret. Her appearance in the debut trailer leans heavily towards her LoL look, but players can also unlock a second costume for Caitlyn, giving her a bodysuit, ponytail and mask instead of her long hair and hat. While the trailer didn't reveal an Arcane outfit, given that other fighters like Ekko, Vi, and Jynx do, it's probably only a matter of time until Caitlyn gets at least one of those as well.
As for how she plays, her hextech rifle probably means she prefers to keep her distance from opponents. In addition to presumably being a strong assist character, Caitlyn will use her rifle for long-range shooting, either on the ground or through the air. She also has a few traps available to keep her opponents guessing, including a bola and bear trap. However, Caitlyn also has some mobility through bridge kicks and evasive rolls.
